If you havnt noticed i like looking at good quality action shots...these are great.

My favorite

I often read a bit about the 100-400 L IS being a bit soft at the 400 end but hell these say other wise.

But can I say that shots like this (http://racefamily.racinglines.com/Galleries/2003/CART/Portland/3_Day/img_3437_std.jpg) bother me? The car is not traveling up a hill; why does he tilt his camera to make it appear so? Lots of race shooters do this routinely. :dunno

I'd say it's a more dynamic composition. The car's pulling through the entire shot on a diagonal - very strong.

i think he might have been tracking the car from his left going to right, camera in hand, i make the same shot when im doing motion shots too. i do it because if i lean to the right and rotate the camera slightly i dont have to pan or turn the camera as much, the lens can stay paralell to what im shooting but the shot is isnt level.

i just faked it by grabbing my box of cold medicine and had my brother walk by, i did it again without thinking.

I noticed that also.... I suppose you need a bit of something in there to break them up a bit or else they could very quickly all become quite boring.

Look how people like andrew break the shots up ie silhouettes...tyres etc. I think you need the 'BIG' pit pass to really get in there.

True, true. I know that's why they do it.

But I don't have to like it. :D The fanatic in me says racing is plenty compelling on its own and doesn't need embellishment, just faithful representation.

Ah, that's where I'd disagree with you. Racing is one thing. Photography is another. Each operates by its own rules. Cars need to go fast. Photographs need to look interesting. They each have their own methods for acheiving their different goals. :evil :1drink

Okay, but can we agree that opening one's eyes leads to better results in both disciplines?

:rofl I noticed that too! Since his eyes looked closed for a series of shots, and since he was squinting even when parked, I was giving him the benefit of the doubt: that he was squinting down as he reset his buttons on the steering wheel, or something. :lol3
