My macro lens

You know - some do - that I don't own a macro lens, yet.
But, following this site idea (http://www.diyphotography.net/diy_reverse_macro_ring) I built my own lens.

The glue is not right for this purpose and after some shots the filter and the ring were apart.:cry
I glue them again and restarted. :rolleyes
The focus was done moving the camera shooting at view. When I had the focus: bang, bang...:D
I have spent 5 + 10 Euros from the filter which is still good because I did not brake it and when I will get my macro lens - the real one - I will detach it from the ring and it will be as good as new.

Now that's creative. So you left the glass in the filter rather than removing it? What filter did you use?

I was not criative because I followed the above link, the one I posted at the beginning of this thread.

I left the filter. It is an UV one. Harmless. :D

Much better example! Works well, and that's much easier than trying to hold the reversed lens against the camera! :rofl Too bad I don't have any old filters laying around or I'd love to give it a try.

Good morning Brian.
I could remember your advice the first time:
Set the Aperture and remove the lens normally with the DOF preview button depressed.

However I have done it only once and then I didn't.
I just set the aperture at 200 and start shooting.
I looked at the preview and adjusted the speed down until I got a better picture.
I started to shoot RAW again after understanding by experience that it is good and returns excellent results.
As I do so, I adjusted the picture not in Photoshop program, but in the other program that runs before it. I think it is the CSR (where did I get this from ?)
In fact the aperture is 0 (zero) when shooting this way.

Sometimes, I move the flash away or near to get the picture when I come to the limits of speed.
I am using the ST-E2 and a 430 SX.

Today, I hope to be able to shoot more. I don't know. It's a glorious day outside. May be I'll go and try some eyes.:D

Antonio - if you have not re-attached the lens normally since setting the aperture like that then that aperture is fixed at whatever it was originally set to. You will always see 00 as the aperture as there is no electrical connection no matter what the actual aperture is. Have a look through the lens and see if you can see the aperture blades :)

I have been looking carefully and I have not seen the blades ! :dunno
Well, this time I placed the lens in correct position and set the aperture to f/5.6.
Then I shot these 2 pictures here - lens inverted - which give us a notion of what we get with the inverted piece of glass, as it introduces a scale factor just like I did before with the pilot shot.

Observe, how shallow is the DOF ! Amazing. :thumb

How about these Brian, for a beginner ?
Not too sharp I'm afraid. the bees were very quick on the flower and I was using f/5.6. May be I should have used a smaller aperture...:dunno
And there is many own shadow ... :cry

Great idea
