f8, 1/400s and ISO 400. LAB Postprocessed.

hi manfr3d, i think this has potential, but it somehow feels unfinished to me. the background is nicely blurred, but it's sooo dark that it clashes with the bright, eager animal. i'm not crazy about the shadows on its back either. sounds like you might have had a little bit more leeway with the aperture, it would have been nice to see it closed down a bit more to try to get the whole tail in focus (unless it is in focus and i just can't tell at this resolution).
i think what would have taken this to the next level would be a clearer view of the animal's face. obviously something you can't control, but it would give a more immediate connection with the photo, rather than just wondering what it's looking at. overall, i think it is a nice photo, but there is room for improvement.

I would process this in the curves layer in lab color and convert back to rgb.
This will get rid of the haze from shooting at 300mm and give it some contrast .
The main subject is washed out.
If you need help I can do this and show you a print screen or hit the auto fuction in curves .
