Hi there Brian, I can't wait to have a go at shooting Hoverflies,
they are one bug I do see a lot in the yard.
Did you use the MPE-65 for this lot ??
Why do bugs need such large compound eyes :scratch
The little fella in the first shot looks like he needs a straw for his drink :rofl

Not quite handheld- I use a pole. Used to use a plastic coated bean pole, now I use a deluxe 4 section collapsible tent pole :). I grip the pole in my left hand and just hold or rest the camera on/with the same hand.
You can see me using it in the pic below with just as a coincidence, 2 bean poles being used as bean poles in the BG.

Yes by coincidence they were all with the MPE-65 although many were shot close to 1:1.
Suspect the large eyes is something to do with regular flight as most non regular flyers seem to have much smaller eyes.

Excellent shots. #2 and the last one are incredible. :)
