So, I'm having issues setting up a custom hostname through Yahoo!. The front end of my site is hosted by them while all the galleries and fulfillment are handled through SM. In the custom hostname FAQ we're instructed to go to advanced DNS settings on Y! and edit our CNAME. The problem is -- as I learned through Y! tech support -- if they actually host your site you don't have edit control over the CNAME. All you can do is create a new record. However, if you do that and set up www.markrogersphotography.com as the source and www.smugmug.com as the destination it means that anyone entering www.markrogersphotography.com into their URL field will go to the smugmug homepage for my site, not my actual markrogersphotography.com index page.

Is there anything I can do about this?

Have you thought about using a custom sub-domain name?
You could use something like this: http://photos.markrogersphotography.com/ to point to your SmugMug site.

Will this be more advantageous for me in terms of SEO as opposed to what I have going on now?
