View Full Version : Weekly Assignment #49: 3-piece Storyboard
Nikolai
Aug-16-2007, 08:52 PM
Another one that requires a bit of both: shooting and post-processing.
Your task this week is to create a 3-piece storyboard: one larger composite consisting of three pictures, a large frame and a title (your copyright can be there too).
Your three pictures could be sequential, could be a parts of a pano, or their relationship could be even more loose. However, there should be something that unite them all, as well as the title.
No need to jump over your head to make PS create the realistic mattes and frame, but some attention in that direction will be appreciated. :wink
If you decide to get creative (like going vertical, or using differently sized images with non-grid layout) - please, submit a good simple one first and then go ballistic. :deal
One storyboard per entry (multiple entries are OK). Fresh pictures only. PS-wise: go as your heart desires, just don't go overboard with it.
For the rest of the rules, please consult with this sticky (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=41800).
Let's get some story going!

So, I was shooting at a miniature golf course out of necessity to get out of the house and not go too far.

I didn't use any filters, just some lightroom presets that I tweaked a bit to get the outrageous colors. I hope everyone gets the joke. :wink

While you are it, I suggest to resize the last one, so the size of the main flask matches the first two images (currently it's slightly bigger)...

Yes Nikolai. I know you are right but I don't know how to place 3 pictures in one and I don't feel like Googling and so, for that purpose.:dunno
This n pictures in one doen't attract me ... :scratch
It was done automatically with Automate/Contact sheet...
Huumm... May be later I will try ...

Thank you!
For advanced framing here are few steps one can try:
Create a new image with the target dimensions
(optional - extra credit) Add a bg image, free transform to fill the canvas, levels to make it high key, opacity low to make it very barely visible. Also add some gradient over mask to create a diagonal visiblily shift.
Add the target images
Resize, crop and arrange the target images to their final positions
Merge the tree image layers into one
Open this merge layer style dialog, add stroke and shadow (and whatever else you want)
That's all folks! :clapHTH

Nikolai.
Thank you for pushing me to do the 3 photos together.
After a few tries I did it. Still not very perfect but very good. (I think).
The photos are shot with an umbrella in different positions.
We can see that some positions are not good. Still a lot to learn as usual ! :wink
The photo need to be edited because I want his name to appear completely and I don't know it at the moment and I can not contact him. I will just replace the photo and everything will be OK then.
And the margins are not perfect !:scratch:cry

I woudl still like to see the internal frames (white? dark navy? glowing red? bezeled?) and maybe shadows, just for the kicks... :deal

Antonio, is that guy a comic book artist? Or graphic novelist? Whatever he's working on looks really cool. If you do find out his full name, I'd love to know it and dig up some of his work.

More photo of him here. (http://antoniocorreia.smugmug.com/gallery/1587711#187135010)
He makes the drawings and colorize later on. (is this correct ? It doesn't sound)
I wanted him to take from home - this is where we work - some colored drawings but the one he has is too large. ( ! ) I don't understand that but OK.
He is handy caped as he doesn't ear and in consequence he can hardly speak since he is born.
He has not drawings in the net, oh no. I'm sure.
Tomorrow I will remember and I will tell him that someone is interested to look at his drawings.
I will ask him and I'll shoot his work for you to see. I'll insert them in my web page, giving you a short notice.

Thank you Nik. I took the pictures, processed and posted it at lunch time. It didn't give me any time to comment on the post.
Anyway
One of the bantams is hatching off her eggs. This is the last one to hatch so I thought I ought to get it before it was too late. I got home this evening to find that not much has changed.

Kerry, good evenning.
You can see here (http://antoniocorreia.smugmug.com/gallery/1587711#188667792-L-LB) a photo of the work of this man.:D
He doesn't read or speak English at all. It is difficult for Portuguese already.
He is very "closed", "hermetic" to show his work :dunno
I had to convince him that there was no problem.

Wow, thank you, Antonio! :clap It looks like he does what I was asking. I could probably figure out how to translate it into Spanish, but with Portuguese, I'm at a complete loss. :dunno
Please tell him thank you for allowing you to share his incredible work with me.! I love it! :D

We were doing it anyways. The house was bad and needed to come down, so we let the fire dept use it for training. It was just a good opportunity for some pictures and this assignment.
