Thought this would be a nice morning shot. Cold out and I didn't have any gloves so I shot and ran. Any suggestions on cropping? I liked the contrast between the light pole and the light house but any goes.

It conveys the cold of the morning with great blues - most execelent. Not much good at cropping myself (yet), so little help there.....but I can almost smell the crisp air!

I suppose you could clone out the flare, doesn't bother me, but others mention it sometimes.
I don't see that you need to crop. Fine detail in the foreground shadow area which leads into the main middle area. I love the mist or whatever rising up that makes it look even colder.
Very good shot.

OK, here is my take on a crop.

SamThat would have been my suggestion too - take out some of the foreground so that the horizon is at the 1/3 mark from the bottom. And take some off of the right.
And btw, lovely shot - great colors!

I would crop out the bottom also, but I think I would leave the right. The expanse of the sunset is taken away when you crop it like that.

Attached is a photo taken 5 minutes before my shot. One was taken with Canon 10D and the other a 20D Both people handling the cameras are as green as they come. We use only about 1/100 of what the camera is capable of doing but we are slowly learning. Again, thanks for the comments. I enjoy seeing what others are seeing through a lens.

I enjoy the darker colors in the second picture a great deal! Makes me wish it wasnt overcast in Oregon :cry
So pretty, love the colors and the mist/steam comiing off the water. Hmmm, is the water warmer than the air? :):
I don't know the area, although I've seen lots of photos of this light...
Is it possible to get the lamp post in the foreground and the lighthouse? You would have to be to the left of the lam post for this to work. Maybe the water is frozen? :rofl
Part of the problem with this photo is that things are too evenly spaced across the field, harbor light, tree, lamp post...

I like the suggestion --going further to the left. I think that would work too because the shore (Lake Superior) curves slightly. Water was warmer that air. About 18 below but no wind so it was tolerable.

Neat shot. Love winter pictures. I like the cropping Sam did. Makes the picture even better.
