On an overcast day under a dense canopy of trees, with threatening clouds (later to be torrents of rain) and a lone lily beetle (on a lily, not surprisingly) pondered it's surroundings at Salmesbury Hall, on the outskirts of Preston and Blackburn.

Latin name is Lilloceris lilii

Exif: Taken at 1/8th sec @ f/16, ISO 200. EOS 400D with Sigma 105 macro lens.

Lovely capture Paul.
Wonder what nasty trick they have up their sleeve ? as it's not exactly camouflaged.

Thanks Brian.

He seemded harmless enough. The first few I took were not too good due to his position, so I allowed him to walk onto my finger so that I could move him onto a better location on the flower.

Mind you - if I was bird, I wouldn't risk this in my beak... :barb

Very pretty! Did that little beetle do all that chewing on the tip of the petal all by his lonesome? :D
