I'm trying to get use to a carbon fiber monopod (Gitzo). It's not as maneuverable as the Novoflex chest pod that I normally use, but above 2x I almost have to have something to limit movement because I don't crop in post processing. What I've been doing is keeping the monopod collapsed and the end of it tucked into my waste line -kind resting on my belt. So I can reposition quickly and at the same time keep the camera very still.

I've seen a harness that film cameramen use to steady the rig while they move -I could actually see myself using something similar. The alternative is to start using a tripod, and I don't want to limit myself to subjects that don't move. I don't know of anyone successfully shooting bees above life size with a tripod, and I don't want to pass on images like this one taken at 2x:

Just no way to take a shot like that one unless the camera is in your hand...

You are sooooooooo bad! :rofl

Actually I read somewhere that macro is a subset of closeup photography, so it's all good :wink
