Some decent Hummer shots I got at our Friends Party yesterday.
To get truly great shots I'd need a fast zoom which I don't have 2-4k kick'in around for.
Even a 30D or 5D with the higher MP mighta helped.
But all in all I did pretty good with my Sigy 80-400mm IMHO.
To freeze motion had to use ISO 800 for most.

Very nice series. I like the second very much.

To freeze the action, shutterspeed is not always the answer. Using flash (resulting in lower shutterpeed) can give you
amazing results too. I can promise you that bat's are fast.

Look at this one @ 1/60

Thanks for sharing,

I was going to suggest using Flash, too. My daughter told me we have some visiting our garden now. Will have to try my luck!

ewww, that bat looks like a rat with wings. I bet you blinded that sucker with your flash, lol. I don't see how you captured that one so clearly. What distance? edit...nevermind I see your exif data now... I thought I was gonna just see hummers in this thread.

The best hummer shots I have seen were taken with a series of flashes on stands, really flooding with light to stop their wings in flight. There used to be a nice documentary on his technique at another forum. Let me also go on to say, these are NICE hummer shots. By far better than my futile attempt last year. (no hummers this year)

Anyway, just this guy was really excellent at technique.

I hope more hummers will be shown in this thread. Considering the 80-400mm, the hummers came out very nice. A tripod is a must.

Thanx for the kind comments!
I was gonna use a flash but it was fairly bright out.
Also at 50ft I don't think my 420EX is up to it.
