I am trying to make a banner to put on smugmug, Does anyone have step by step instructions on how to do it in Photoshop? I would like my banner to have nav keys at the top, home, about us, gallery, contact us, portrait rates, wedding rates, feedback, FAQ, Links, with each link going to the different subcat. and the gallery go to subcat, then the next subcat. being the actual gallery (if that makes since) and a large slide show in the middle of some of my best shots, My site now is www.soskinphotography.com, basically everything I have there I have to move to a more productive site, with better features.

Oh - you do have photoshop :thumb
Great.
First tell us what sort of banner you are planning on. Is it a photographic banner, made up of images? Or is it a text-based banner. Tell us as MUCH as you possibly can about what you want, so that those who can help you, will be able to help you.
:wave welcome to Dgrin!

Oh - I see you've edited your first post - I wouldn't have known that you put more in, it's better to reply to your posts, okay? Then we get notice :)

OK First:
Make a banner. The banner should be say, 750pixels wide by 100 pixels high.
Examples:
http://www.smugmug.com/img/help/custom-photo-albums.jpg
Or just text, like I have on www.moonriverphotography.com
Then, you use our tutorial, to get it on your site:
http://dgrin.smugmug.com/gallery/1932865
THEN
Use our next tutorial, which is featured prominently in the Sticky Thread, for customizing:
http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=52812
This is the "start here" thread that I sent you by email from the help desk, yesterday.
There, you'll see a tutorial for the navbar. That will sit beneath your banner, and can have all the links you like..
Is this step-by-step a good start?
We still have asked you questions you have not answered - what kind of banner do you want? Telling us more, will enable us to help you :)

I guess that is where I am lost because I thought I did by telling you all the buttons, and slideshow in the middle, I would like something like moonriverphotography site. Is that answering your question? As we talked yesterday I am very new to this and I guess I don't know how to ask for what I really want. sorryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy :)

No, it's not enough. What do you want your banner to say? What fonts? What colors? Being exact would enable us to help you and just do it.
We cannot guess.
And, the links to our tutorials give exactly what you need.
I tell you what, Our Super Heroes Barb, Ivar, and Rich, and me, are going to help you get a dream site going in the next 48 hours. Are you READY????? :D
Do NOT do any customizing on your site until instructed to do so by one of our team.
But, DO answer our qeustions on the the banner. I'll make you a banner tomorrow, if you just answer the questions I've been asking :)
Everything will happen in this thread.

Hi,
No one is aggravated here :) We'll get you going.
I have created a navbar and a homepage slideshow for you. The links that are working in your navbar are "Home" and "Galleries." The rest of the navbar links take you nowhere just yet.
I just used one of your galleries for the slideshow now. It can be changed at any time :)
That's it for me tonight; however, others will be here later to help you some more!

And, now you have a header.
Next step. Make your "Contact Us" gallery.
Make a NEW gallery, call it "Contact Us" - upload ONE photo to it - and put the contact info, and anything else you like, in the caption. Then go to gallery customization (gallery tools>customize gallery), and force the style to journal. When you have done this, reply back with a link to the gallery and one of us will add it to your contact us button in the navbar.
Then, and only then - can we move to all the other steps :)

Your pics go from something very simple to very dramatic, you have a good eye to make something taken for granted, pop. You have good taste, I am impressed, I hadn't looked at your work until now. You would be a great mentor.

That looks great, thank you so much for your time and efforts, somewhere in the night I must have lost the guest book comment button, can you tell me how to retreive it and I probably don't need about and contact because I think I kinda combined them. What do you think?
Would my nav keys look cleaner like yours or leave them the way they are? I am replacing this site www.soskinphotography.com I am just trying to get a face lift and a more functionable site. Any suggestions? Everyone has been such great help. Again thank you so much.
When all the galleries are done will they visible to my clients, ie. contact me, pricing and so on, any where besides the nav keys?
Also feedback is under contact us, all so unless maybe I need to change that to guest book? Or do you think put it all under contact us and just change all three to guest book. I don't know never made a site before and it is all over my head, but they kinda seem like they are all combined, right?

Add these to CSS to clean up the FAQ gallery. Might turn off printing to remove cart also.
.loggedIn .gallery_3107123 #breadcrumb {display: block;}
.gallery_3107123 #breadcrumb,
.gallery_3107123 #albumNav_top,

Add another set using the WEDDING PRICING and Portrait Pricing gallery numbers.

thats all over my head,????????????????????????????????
The .journal_entry statement below hides to photo. Like Andy said, all the
text and the photo can be added to the gallery description. By keeping the
photo in the gallery and hiding it provides easy access to link to.
Add these to CSS to clean up the FAQ gallery. Might turn off printing to remove cart also.

Add this for your FAQ page to your CSS

To clean up portrait package galley add these
.loggedIn .gallery_3107063 #breadcrumb {display: block;}
.gallery_3107063 #breadcrumb,
.gallery_3107063 #albumNav_top,
.gallery_3107063 #albumNav_bottom,
.gallery_3107063 .journal_entry {display: none;}
also think you have "smugmug" checked instead of "custom" under
gallery customization. Notice no navbar. CSS not active on that page.
Your FAQ page is messed, you removed the photo and now some text is
above your page.
Change the margin-top to zero and you'll see the text back down. If you don't
want the photo shown will have to reformat the page.

Also remove JUST this part from the gallery description of the FAQ gallery.

I'll work up something for you early tomorrow, late here. Will do similar thing as
your FAQ gallery. Add the photo upper left and probably put package
C & D under A & B to make room. So check back, shouldn't take too long.

It would make it easier if all the source photos used in each gallery are
either portrait or landscape. The Portrait Package would work with portraits
and the wedding with landscape. Homepage source ok as is.
Here's the code to replace the show code in your footer. Not sure if this will
work until you try it.:D The gallery description box code will have to be
changed also to add the show for each gallery. So the first step is replacing
this and checking if the homepage bio show still runs.:D

In your CSS find these two and change to these.
/* WEDDING PORTRAITS gallery */
.gallery_3106995 #WedPortSS {
position: relative;
height: 268px;
width: 178px;
margin-top: 30px;
margin-left: 100px;
border:4px double #cccccc;
}
.gallery_3106995 #galDescText1 {
position: relative;
color: #ccc;
width: 340px;
margin-top: -280px;
margin-left: 320px;
}
Also
Look at post #156 and the missing < script > tag to get the galleries back.

I think the heights and width are reversed in your footer code.
Try flip-flopping these for the PORTRAIT PACKAGES in your footer code.
slideHeight = "200"; //visible height of slide
slideWidth = "300"; //visible width of slide
to this

I think it all looks great now. Slideshows a little slow in loading but ok. A
couple photos don't fit the slideshow in the wedding pkg gallery. Might resize
or delete those.
Overall it looks real nice.

Maybe sit back and watch the show?:D You'll see a couple that don't fit.
Saw one too narrow and one sticking out to the right.
