Aperture help needed

Hi folks,

I have iPhoto, Aperture 1.5, and Adobe Photoshop CS loaded on the new Macbook Pro I just purchased. I'm having some difficulty getting everything squared away in the photo software programs and am hoping someone on the group can clear up a couple things for me.

Not sure if I need all of these programs? They were already on the computer when I bought it. I have been playing around with Aperture but have a couple issues I'm trying to figure out:

1. How do you save an image as a TIFF or JPEG from the RAW format after working on it?

2. Do I really need both Aperture and Photoshop? Currently Photoshop CS is loaded, but I'm upgrading to CS2.

3. How can I transfer photos to Photoshop from Aperture or iPhoto?

Thanks for any help or suggestions - incidently, I'm new to the world of Mac as this Macbook Pro is my first time leaving the Windows PC realm.

1. Go to File -> Export

2. Yes. You will find there is only so much you can do with Aperture, and the cloning tool is not up to much at present. Photoshop is always great for things you cannot do in RAW processing programs.

3. In your preferances, there is a selection you can make to choose an external editor. You can then Ctrl Click and image to bring up a sub-menu, and choose to edit in the external editor. This will then create either a TIF or JPG depending on your preference, and open it up in Photoshop. The new file is saved into your Aperture library when you go back in.

Hope this clears things up.

Thanks for the info - I appreciate your reply. I have to convert a bunch of my RAW images to low resolution jpegs for upload to my stock agency's staging area, and with the new program and computer I was going crazy trying to figure out how to do it! :dunno

I will give the file->export a look. I really appreciate the help - my already gray hair is getting grayer with the PC->MAC switch, but I know I'll get the hang of it soon. At my age takes me a little longer. LOL!

I'm trying Aperture and I have Nikon NX as a purchased RAW editor for my macbook. I am really liking the file management of Aperture, but I want to use Nikon NX to edit in RAW...seems I can only export TIFF or JPEG to NX. WTF? I want to use Nikon RAW formulas, or is that just corporate BS and Aperture will do the same job?

I just want a simple program to sort my files, and iPhoto isn't up to the task, and neither is NX.
