Before it would swallow the frog it dunked it in the water to get some vegetation off the frog.
Harryb
Feb-14-2005, 03:19 PM
Then it gav ethe frog a second dunk. Maybe to give it that swamp water taste?

For the non-wildlife view. Right now we have a building boom going on. Many of the laborers are undocumented aliens who provide the contractors with cheap labor

These are fantastic captures! What makes them special to me is that they represent a part
of the birds every day life. I hear frongs taste just like chicken. Even to the Herons :D

Hey Trish,
I'm feeling chipper again. :smile6
Glad you liked the pics, the green heron was a big help. I was using my 80-400 VR for those pics. The 80-400 works better in the Wetlands because you get so clsoe tot he birds. The 300mm + 1.4 TC is my lens of choice at Merritt Island. Speaking of Merritt Island here's a link with the weekends shooting schedule if you are interested. http://www.nikoncafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=376
Not to worry. When you make ht emove give me a holler.

IanThanks Ian for your comments. For herons, just like Andy, eating is their main occupation. The frogs actually taste like spare ribs. :food

I spent my childhood weekly, almost, at a certain restaurant, outside of detroit, eating frog legs.
They do not taste like ribs, Harry, they taste like chicken. My parents said so.
(Then when I got older I shot them with a BB gun)
Great photographs of the event, Harry, I love the first photo which seques (sp) into the rest. Tell that bird that is no way to eat frog legs. Geez.
Isn't it neat how they wash their food, though. That was the only heron who stayed around for me to photograph him, one who was obsessed with the food washing preparing, etc.
(I only shoot things with a camera now. Am against gun ownership, but that was sure fun back in the olden days as a kid)

Hey Ginger,
I tried to tell that heron about the proper way of eating frog legs but he was not buying it. Thanks for the comments on the pics.
Green herons are pretty cool. They will even put food or bait in the water to attract fish .

Next time I see you I have to get a picture of you dunking your frog legs. I then can compare your style to the heron's to see who will get the "style" points.
:heh
Thanks for the kind comments. you do have to feel sorry for the frog. He was in the wrong weight class.
