Got an idea for a change to searching that I think is low impact with high value. It would be nice if, when doing a search, if it starts from wherever you happen to be at the moment.
If I am at my homepage, it searches all my categories and galleries. If I'm at a catetory, it searches only that category. If I'm at a sub-category, ditto. Finally, if I'm in a gallery, it searches only that gallery. This is a variation on the existing theme. For example, Smugmug already allows searching only within a given user, or through all of Smugmug.

Does anyone know if this suggestion was ever implemented, or if a workaround had been established?
This would be really handy for my current project.
Thanks,

Let's hear from the javascript gurus.
Although, this is most likely going to be something that has to happen on the server side. So....
Let's hear from JT.

Hmm. I moved it to Customization becuase I wanted to hear what tricks might be used in the search code that we already have that allow searching wtihin "nickname"

Back atcha, Mikey!Like I said, we can't do anything. The search goes to the server which does it's Smugmagic and sprinkles down a series of results like a warm summer rainshower. I can no more control the search results with styling than I can control the weather :D (ADDED: of course my analogy breaks down because apparently I can make the rain a nice shade of blue-green ... but uh ... you get the idea)
Javascript may be able to do more but I suspect it'll be a tedious and quite imperfect like using one of those oscillating lawn sprinkler things. You would have to move it from yard to yard on your own and the hose may not be long enough to reach the whole yard sometimes.
:nono this isn't a style thing :deal

JavaScript might be able to do it, but only with the help of AJAX (the ajax_query() function that allows people to add comments, change captions, etc on the fly). Through AJAX the server is involved.
And even then it would be a LOT of work to get it all functioning OK. Exactly like the lawn sprinkler metaphor... i liked that one :rofl

HA! I see it's back.
I've attached a poll to let everyone decide where it goes :D
Vote early, vote often :deal

I don't think you can take that 120 thousand something number seriously, though ... in favor of the 'whipping post'... :scratch Somebody used an automated script to vote ?

Wow, I didn't realize that 120,000 people would care where this goes!
From reading other threads, and asking other questions, I think that makign virtual gallerys with keywords is going to work better for me anyway.
I really wanted them to be able to click on a keyword and get all the images with that keyword. The search was just a way to do that (if I could scope it for a specific category)
Still would be a cool feature in general, though.
