View Full Version : Assignment #39: Profile

Hopefully everybody got enough Food and we can get back to target practice.
Who said a photographer need to keep the low profile? Let's shoot the person who said it, and let's shoot some profiles!

Your target does not have to be human (although that's a mostly appreciated subject). It doesn't even have to be alive - cars, planes and ships carry nice profiles, too.

Please watch your angle! And remember, profile does not have to be a silhouette. Moreover, in the interest of this class let's NOT shoot silhouettes! :deal

As usual, fresh pictures only (meaning: taken AFTER you have become aware of this assignment),
moderate post-processing.

For the rest of the basic rules and index please check out this sticky (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=41800).

Let's start profiling! :D

This is with the 50 1.2

I was passing in that park some hours ago and I could feel the light was harsh.

Next time. But it fulfills the goal. :thumb

My heritage: he could not read or write. He was working in the ships. Putting some kind of stuff between the wood for the water not to go in. Do you understand ? Hope so.

And then I just love snapping photos of my dog and she turned away for a pleasant profile :)

The goal of my photos this evening were more portrait in nature so those are the only profiles I managed to capture.

I think it looks soft because of a really narrow DOF. I was practicing using my 50/1.8 at church and I was keeping it at f2 I think. I think the girl on the right has her ear in focus, but the girl on the left is past the area in focus. I think. :wink

Well I had some fun with this one. I decided to use my Newfoundland Chloe as the subject. I messed around with lighting, angles, flash curtains... pretty much all the stuff that I learned that my camera could do to try and get some cool shots. Some came out better then others.

I think I might go back in and touch this one up in Photoshop a little later but I like the composition and the fact that Chloe is not all black.

It's a well-known pure psychological issue. Human vision is task oriented. We concentrate so much on the "important" things, that we literally don't see the rest. But the camera, it does not care, it records everything.

These are from another track event this past weekend. Also these are all straight out of the camera, with no post processing (yet....).

Classic lines, at speed...

Tried getting even closer shots, but was tough getting a clear image at the desired shutter speed, with a 100-400MM handheld.

I went to see our neighbor's grandson and thought it would be a perfect time to get a profile. I never got a decent one of the baby though. But, I did manage this one.

Wish the dog was in profile too. :D

It's just a little bit off to be a 100% perfect profile, but it will do:-)
