I put a bid on this auction for fun , I wouldn't mind stripping the lens down to see how it all works and maybe rubbing sandpaper over the image sensor of the D2xs . Apparently the setup fell into the water and sat there for three months before being recovered . Would anything in the setup be worthwhile re-using ?

Should ask Nikon to see how much it would be to restore it. I'm sure it will be expensive, but it might be less expensive as opposed to buying a new one?

I wondered about that , I imagine mainly the bearings inside are rusted , don't know if the glass would have suffered ?

Most likely a "clean" New Zealand fresh water lake .....

In good ol' days Hasselblad offered such pro service - if your stuff was submerged in the water,
pick it up WITH THE WATER, pack in sealed bags and send to us ASAP.

Allowing to dry basically destroyed poor Nikon completely :cry

cost of repair, likely cost prohibitive. Painful to see. I think it should be sent to the shreader. About the only possible use is, the front and rear elements could maybe be cleaned and used on another lens that was scratched or broken (installed by Nikon of course). Then trash the rest.

Oh, a DIY modder could possibly swipe the Nikon mounts for some project.

clean up the outside like new money and use as a theif decoy, lol.
