Going over some earlier shots and found this one. I liked it but there was nothing but empty space to the right of the frame.....so I added the reed which was shot on the same day and actually was in reality about 2ft. to the left of the bird.

Ric, nice clean shot of a RRBB. I think what you have there is not a female, but an immature male - with the red mark on the wingbar.

Well...I'm certainly no expert but the boys have been chasing a bunch of these around!:rofl

I assume that the red splotch is breeding plumage...some have it and some don't. I think the immature males are darker and less streaked than this. These more closely resemble the Tricolored Blackbird female in my book but of course cannot be in this area.

Thanks, David. :D

Edit...well I just did some checking and am more confused...can't seem to find any definitive info. I don't know where they get the photos for identification...but they are not taken by the better photogs! So...maybe the old boys are chasing the youngsters away from their duties!!! I remain open minded.

Your manipulation worked well. Nice shot.

So this is where all the old STF members hang out now? :)

Cheers.
