View Full Version : Sigma 10-20mm or Nikkor 10.5mm Please Comment!

I own a 10.5mm. I like shooting with it. I do a lot of shooting at night in dark clubs. This is also a lens of choice in the antelope canyons.

I damaged it. It's dinged on the lens about half way from center to top right.

I've been shooting events with my 12-24mm which I love. I will use some fill flash when i shot with this lens. I used to tote the 10.5mm on another body and use available light.

I'm thinking of getting the Sigma 10-20mm instead of replacing my nikon 10.5mm However, the Sigma is f4.5-5.6 and the Nikon is f2.8.

Decisions, decisions....

Hi David,

The Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED-IF DX fisheye Nikkor is a very special lens, and if you are used to the 180 degree effect, you would miss it. The two lenses really are for different applications entirely, and really can't be directly compared.

The Sigma 10-20mm, f/4-f5.6, EX DC HSM and the Tokina 12-24mm, f/4.0, PRO DX are very nice ultrawide zooms, and the Tokina 10-17mm F/3.5-4.5 DX Fisheye Zoom may be more of a replacement/alternative for the Nikon fisheye previously mentioned.

My father has the Tokina 12-24mm, in Nikon mount, and he seems to like it.

Did you ever box the lens up and send it to Nikon for a repair estimate?

I have the sigma 10-20 and really have fun with it . If you can afford the Nikon get it rather . WDC magazine did a test on 4 superwide-zooms and gave the Canon 10-22 80% , Tamron 11-18 74% , Sigma 10-20 79% [ 13 for performance ] and the Nikon f4 12-24 86% [17 for performance ], they never mentioned the 10.5 but I think you will really miss the f2.8 .
