Once again this year, my BMW club made the journey to Auburn, California for the 49er Rally. For those unfamiliar, this is a gathering of BMW motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the western U.S., most camping, visiting vendors, swapping lies around the campfire, and going on some great rides in the Sierra Nevadas. Here are a few photos to give you an idea.

One of our first stops was Yosemite. Here's a favorite and much-photographed spot, Yosemite falls.

Still in Yosemite, we stopped in this little grotto to have a snack. All of these trees were covered in moss.

This is Olmsted Point, looking out to the back of Half-Dome.

The numerous rocks at Olmsted are populated by yellow-bellied marmots. These fairly social creatures had recently awakened after hibernating all winter.

Although we had comparatively little snow, Lake Tenaya was still more than half frozen in late May.

We overnighted at a cool little hotel (rooms and cabins) outside of Bridgeport. I snapped this candid portrait of my friend Kelly through the banister railing on the porch of my cabin. I like it.

I haven't been spending any money on camera equipment for quite some time because I've been saving for this which I bought last month. This was my first "big" trip on the bike, a BMW R1200GS Adventure, and it performed without a hitch.

One of the highlights of any rally is the display of vintage BMW motorcycles. At least for me it is.

Nice, sharp shots. I like the landscape ones, and the tree shot looking upwards is great.

Nice bike, shame it isn't a KTM Adv though :D

Ha! I like my GS, but the KTM is a pretty cool bike, no bout a doubt it.

Attendance did seem to be down a bit. . . . Of course, last year the threat of rain kept quite a few people away.

My buddy Myram is usually the ride leader. He's got the western U.S. down like the back of his hand. No maps, no nothing. Just excellent pass after beautiful lake. He's a wonder.

Yeah. I talked to Al for a while (earplug guy) and Helen Twowheels. Neither
seemed to have much to say about why. I can't wait for Quincy though :thumb

Your buddy travels like I prefer to travel. I think it comes from years of
riding and knowing how to connect the dots. Two thumbs up!

Hi Ian... we are everywhere!!! I am trying to get better taking pictures!!! So I am reading... did Tioga Yesterday... overexposed just about everything...
But his is not a twho wheel forum... sorry... almost forgot!
Great shots...

What do you do about that blue haze?... besides NOT taking the picture?

Haze filter or a polarizer might help.......nice shot anyway:thumb....sometimes you just gotta take nature the way she comes at ya.

Sorry for the hijack Tommy!

Welcome Ara! Hope you and Spirit are doing well!

If you're doing Photoshop, there are a variety of ways to fix this
(or at least make it better). You could dial down the exposure by using
M(anual) mode or one of the aperture or shutter priority modes. Combined
with plus or minus EV compensation would do the trick too.
