I played hooky from work last Thursday and drove out to Point Reyes National Seashore. I decided to head up to Pierce Point and McClure's Beach because I hadn't been there before.

On the way up the peninsula, I stopped for a vista:

Pierce Point Ranch is now an exhibit maintained by the park service. Most of the buildings were locked, but the barn was open.

The trail to the beach follows a creek as it cuts through the cliff side down to the ocean. Here's a couple shots from my walk down.

The creek, which has made a huge cut in the cliff side is just a dribble (at least in May) as it crosses the beach to the ocean

Here's a few of the "must take" California coast shots:

My first choice setup for sunset was a bit too close to the waves and I couldn't keep the lens dry. The wet lens gives it something of a dreamy look:

I made a hasty retreat and took this shot from a little ways up the beach:

Here's the creek on the way back to the car:

And finally, a shot from the parking lot:

There are couple more shots in the gallery (http://gallery.liquidairphoto.com/gallery/2869431/2/154874668#P-1-15).

Comments and/or critiques are welcome. Thank you.

You have some great shots. I am partial to the ocean ones.

Thanks. Even on the nicest days the ocean there is pretty rough which makes for fun shooting. I don't think I would want to be on that beach with heavy surf.

Great stuff, man, re5pect!
Some are pure NG material!
And it looks like you'll have some shots for SF1, too;-)

Thanks! I was certainly thinking about SF1 when I headed out there. I am not sure what I am going to submit yet, but I figured taking some shots out there would set the bar for anything else I consider submitting.

I love the colors in the creek shot you took on the way back to the car.

Thanks. I like that barn too. I was going for something of a large format B&W look when I shot that. Its not up to 8x10 plate standards, but it is still crisp enough to look big.

Tnanks. The last time I was shooting at Point Reyes, we had a brilliantly colored sunset. This trip the colors were much more subtle and I found the lighting tricky to work with. That shot really captured the evening.

Thank you. Point Reyes has some truely stunning coast line. It is hard to go wrong there with a camera.
