I can see why you want to work with his image, it has got potential, but in my opinion a bit too busy. But I would like to see the shop behind the sign and the palm instead. :)

Could try the hayes island effect.

The colors are wonderful and the contrast (at least to those who know
Hwy 1) between sign and shop is cool.

I'd like to see more of the sign and less of the palm too.
