I like it but at the same time I feel it's missing something.
What do you think?

Nice photo, but I'm unclear as to what is the focal point of the picture. Are we looking at the plant, log etc....But hey, I'm still learning too:wink

I agree, not sure what focal point is. However, it's a pretty picture, gives me the calm and relaxed feel.

The image is sharp but lacks a definitive subject. A crop to define the
subject (which I assume to be the shroomy's?) might help.
About the best I could do was this.

I agree that a crop to just the tree midsection is appropriate here. Maybe play with it a bit to see if you can get the color in the tree cross-section to pop out more. It's the patterns and textures in there that I find interesting.
I don't know what it is, but every time I'm hiking and I see a fallen tree, I have a sudden urge to take a picture of it. The urge is quite overwhelming, especially when accompanied by the fact I usually don't have my camera with me in these instances.
I've really got to go out and take some pictures of fallen trees.

Peace, quiet, it's lovely IMO, it does not have a defined subject, but that's okay. It works for me :D

...to include the fern and give a little depth might be the thing IMO.
It is nice the way it is. Looks like a composition that I may have picked.

Yeah, I kinda agree. I've been out a couple of times in the past week to shoot some stuff in the woods. I haven't come back with anything I want to show, same sort of reason. I can't quite get the composition right. :scratch

I can't shoot the woods well, either. I have tried those tree stumps. I knew mine didn't work, but I didn't know why I couldn't get it right. They looked so cool when I saw them.
Now I know, no focal point. And they are missing something, the rest of the the tree, I wonder why that so doesn't work.
