I know this is another wildlife picture but I've never lived in a state that had an official state reptile.

I love the bad hair day, and the reptile is smiling. Did you feed him the bird?
I just got back from filling up two 1 gb cards and one 512 which is all I have.
Maybe I gotta get more. birds and sunsets. Is that bad hair day bird really the same one?

The gator was smiling because he was sunning himself and there were birds all around. He knew that supper was nearby.
Its the same type of heron but not the same heron.
Those cards do fill up fast. I saved money on cards by getting a 40 gig Wolverine. Thats a portable hard drive with slots for the various memory media. I go out with it and two one gig CF cards. When one card gets filled up I pop it ion the Wolverine and shoot with the other card.

Hi PF,
I know how fast those suckers can move. :yikes A while back I saw one sunning himself on the edge of one of the ponds so I snapped some shots. This is easy I said so I moved in closer and snapped some more. I was getting cocky and was considering getting my macro lens when all of sudden he just jumped up, turned around and hightailed it into the water. I was amazed how fast he moved. Then I realized that if he had jumped up, turned around and headed in my direction there was no way I was going to get away. Ever since then I have maintained a respectful distance between us

Hey Harry,
I think I know this gator! I am getting a little braver ..outside of the car...ever since I realized they seem to leap into the water when they see me approach..
Great shots..love the green heron!

Hey Andy,
I move fast when I have to, fortunately thats not too often these days. :wink If I had the right motivation, like a gator on my heels I guess I could pick up a good head of steam.

Jeff,
One of the reasons I have the 80-400 is so that I don't have to get up clsoe and personal with gators. Harry don't do no gator macro shots. :rolleyes
Glad you liked the Green heron shots. They are very shy and its hard to get close enough to get a decen shot.

Hey Triish,
So far all the gators I've run into run the other way. The problem is that they run very fast. I keep a good distance between them and myself in case they ever start running in my direction.
Glad you liked the heron pic. Thanks for stopping by.

It looks like he's thinking "Yum Dinner!" with a big smile on his face. How big was this gator?

I would estimate that he was between 6-8 feet long and still growing.
