Spiderling ball of the babies of the common orb web spider Araneus diadematus. The ball is about 2.5cms dia.

Cool and gross at the same time! Makes me itch all over! Very interesting to see. I've never seen one before.

Like some sort of candy blob on a web.

Your going to have heaps to photograph as they grow aren't you.

That's an amazing shot, I've never seen a ball of spiders before.

Not sure what the survival rate of these is but suspect it's pretty low. Found another 3 spider balls today :)

Reminds me of the Rain Spider nest (http://bigal-sa.smugmug.com/gallery/1367415#49865621) I found at the end of 2005. Haven't seen a single Rain Spider this year (nor any bigger wolfies come to think of it). Must be the drought :cry
