Shay, That is one nice duck, great reflection! I am glad you added the info, especially re the fact that you used an extender.

I am thinking seriously of ordering a 1.4X extender for my new, to be, 300L, etc, lens. What do you think of a long prime like that with a 2x extender vs a 1.4x.

Everything it nice and sharp in your photo. Great colors, too.

Here is a Swan picture I took a few years ago, before digital, in Annecy, France. I took it with a Pentax point and shoot and scanned it with a cheap scanner.

Thanks, I'm glad you like the photo.

I got the extender as a cheap way of getting to 400. It works in bright light but the autofocus is slow. In dim light the picture quality does suffer (a lot! )

This is an example:

http://seamus.smugmug.com/photos/15331541-L.jpg

f10, iso 800, 1/1000, ex0 at 400mm. Cloudy overcast sky. I haven't done any work on this in photoshop.

The combination works for me because I wanted the 70-200 f2.8. Another €200 gives me a serviceable 400 lens. I will buy a zoom or prime at some stage in the 400+ range ( when the credit card cools off :rofl )

The extender also moves the balance point of the lens and it isn't as well balanced on a tripod / monopod.

I wouldn't recommend the combination to you because I haven't had clear bue skys to try it in yet. ( Roll on summer:thumb ).

And remember, I'm an absolute beginner at photography so my opinions are very IMHO :rofl .

Sorry I can't help you more. Btw congrats on the 20d:thumb

Shay.
