It's big and exciting and it's just what the doctor ordered :D

I am very excited to be presenting this boot camp. The chance to spend so much time with photographers and put words to action is really going to be mega-dose of vitamin Awesome! :barb

And the styling of the bride and groom that the photographers will be shooting is really going to make for some stunning portfolio material for photographers to walk away with. Jen will be describing that soon.

Tessa

I started shooting weddings with a Sony F717! It's not the equipment, it's what you do with it!

The SLR I use now just makes my job easier. And I used the earnings from my wedding work to pay for the equipment I now use. My old F717 bought my SLR :wink

So don't let anyone make you feel bad for the equipment you use. You have a much larger impact on the outcome of the photo than the camera does!

When I bought my 828 I hung around stf and admired all the 717 photographers stuff. Once in awhile I lurk there and see that there are several who STILL use and love their 717. I sold my 828 to buy an R1. Though I like it, I miss the functionality my 828. I loved that camera. I couldn't justify having two $1,000 cams. Who knows maybe someday I'll be able to justify it if I decide to pursue photography more.

I might just have to look into the details of your boot camp...my husband has always wanted to go to NYC.

From what I understood once we got to the hotel the rest will be taken care of: rooms, food, transportation, models, etc. So it's essentially two days off one's day job and some $/time to get there and back (in my case it's mere 3-4 hours of driving, or even less). :deal

Man so if I barely know how to post process I am in trouble.

I am so in this for Boston. This is exactly what I need (plus a photoshop class) Plus I know I learn better by doing (and the whole failing and succeeding) and with such a small group and the cost covers the whole thing!!! Really I dont think I will find a better opportunitity to get such a great ROI!!!

Got this question from an email today wondering if the Wedding Photographers Boot Camp was limited to Dgrin members only or could others attend.

The answer is, it is open to anyone interested in attending. You don't have to be a Dgrin member to attend, but you may want to be one after the Boot Camp is over :wink

So if you know of any groups or individuals who might be interested, go ahead and invite them visit this thread. Even if you wind up not being able to attend, someone you know might be able to.

Another of the benefits of a program like this is the friendships and people you meet that you can help each other with for years to come. Meeting people face to face has a huge impact as anyone who has attended the other dgrin workshops can attest to.

LeeI'm thinking that a DVD or on-line sessions would miss the major benefits of "in-residence" - the model shoot at the church and a local outdoor setting. In addition, you have all the face time with Shay for Q&A and to attempt to suck his brain dry of all available information. There are two session within reasonable distance from Toranto (Chicago and NYC). Something to think about!

For scheduling reasons, I can't attend the NYC session, but will be at the Boston one! So, I'm flying in rather than driving. Oh well, it's worth it!

Amusing thoughts:

1) I'll be at my parents home on Long Island during the time of the NYC boot camp for my anniversary (June 24th)... but alas home for anniversary = not home for boot camp

and 2)
I live in northwest indiana... so I won't be far from the chicago one...

but alas, I just dropped a big chunk o change on some new lenses, so affording 2 grand for a super amazing 4 day boot camp = not in my budget :(

but if it was I'd so be there! I just need to go and win the lotto now, lol

When designing this boot camp we wanted to make the wedding day a real boost to the portfolios of the attendees. We wanted something that would not only appeal to the photographer, but their potential brides and clients as well. Pushing the classic wedding look with a pinch of fashion flair, it's the reason so many brides and fashion magazines are sold.

Your brides dream big, and to that end the 2007 WPBC wedding day theme is “1940's Hollywood Glamor”. This look will capture the attention of your potential clients with its dramatic & romantic style with a contemporary twist.

The professional makeup artist will give your bride a modern take on the 1940's glamor girl, with fresh skin, liquid eyeliner, dramatic lips. :tuesday

The professional hairdresser with adapt the hair to flatter your bride while going for a sexy mostly down coiffure with a European inspired pearl/feather accent on the side.

Your bride will have a stunning couture gown. Trend setting fresh flowers, with an emphasis on soft colors and freshwater pearl accents.

Your bride will be receiving a 14K white gold Edwardian style ring with a 3 ct diamond center stone, and delicate side accent stones. (only your jeweler knows for sure!) And your groom will be be receiving a sleek titanium band. :andy

Each student will be giving the opportunity to shoot their own ceremony as the main shooter, and as the assistant shooter. The photo's in the park will be the same way, with each student as main shooter and lighting assistant. Very nice portfolio building opportunity!!!

The 4 day long curriculum will be very informative, but refreshing also. :bingeIn addition to the standard break times, each day the classroom will be served a refreshing lunch, (not a heavy hotel buffet) so that more time can be spent discussing the curriculum. Breakfast is provided to the students, and dinner will be a fun, tasty, social time to talk shop. :lol

We hope to see YOU there!

In 12 hours from now, I will shoot my first wedding as first shooter. I am so pumped. My cards are formatted, batteries charged, case packed and lenses cleaned. I am sure the workshop will take me to the next level sooner rather than later.:deal

Cool. Looking forward to meeting you.

I had a glance at a couple of your wedding galleries. Nice work!

Thanks!
The vast majority of those galleries I was only a guest. I have only really shot one wedding as the photograhper (after numberous friends begging and then being disapointed by who they hired I caved)

I find the sport background comes in handy because I am use to shooting peak action as it happens. You cant make a touch down pass happen again and you can kind of look at wedding activites that way.

But I know I have alot to learn before I start marketing myself to the masses.

I just stuck my top wedding photos in one featured gallery.

I am trying to find some work as a 2nd photograhper this summer for experience so I have been meaing to do this anyways.

Introducing...

The WPBC couture wedding gown by Maggie Sottero!

This season, bridal couture has seen a slimmer, more sultry silhouette, and this strapless gown is at the forefront of fashion with its long corset-back bodice of Ritz Dupion Silk asymmetrically ruched to accentuate the feminine figure. The fitted hip is accented with a silk bouquet, and the skirt of fluted tulle cascades gently to the floor, and the chapel length train.

Our brides have raved about their Maggie Sottero gowns for years, and with good reason. The Sydney based Maggie Sottero design team are recognized as the winner of numerous bridal industry awards, including five prestigious DEBI Awards, eight Desert Rose Awards, two Diva Awards, and two Dallas Rose Awards.

On the WPBC tour we will have two of these gowns for your 1940's Hollywood Glamor Bride model. One gown in Silk White, and the other in Cameo Pink, and each attendee will have the chance to vote on the color used on their city's wedding day.

What is your favorite color?

What is your favorite color?Hard choice. They are both so beautiful. I think, for the purposes of the educational experience, the pink one will provide more challenge and that would be my vote.

I am so looking forward to the WPBC!!

Thanks so much! Really looking forward to it!!!Unless things have changed, the Friday hotel is on the attendees. The fun starts with breakfast when we all get to meet each other (if that hasn't happened the night before) and the class starts at about 9:00 Sat morning.

:wave

Update:
Shay has just decided to include a complementary "Friday nights" stay, and we will take care of the reservation for you, so all you have to do is show up Friday afternoon/ evening. For any who have already made a “Friday night” reservation on their own, we are happy to reimburse you for it. In designing the class we anticipated more "local" attendees, but so many are flying in and it's so important to feel fresh and ready. :wink

The Class Schedule:
Sat, Sun, 8:30am to 5:00pm. Monday (the wedding day), we will meet in the lobby at 9:15 and return to the hotel about 5:00. Tuesday AM we will check out of our rooms, and the class will conclude about 4:00PM. (So, if you had a flight at 7:00pm you should be fine to get to the airport the recommended 2 hours early even with normal evening traffic.)

Hotel to Airport:
There is a couple of shuttle company's that can take you “To and From” the airport, and we can have one/a couple scheduled to pick up after class at specific times.

Airport to Hotel:
Outside baggage claim, walk over to the area titled "Airport Shuttles" and get on a "Super Shuttle" or "ABC Shuttle" ($18 to 19) each way. As you board, tell the driver you are going to "Embassy Suites Southeast, on East Hampden Ave" (There are several E.S. locations in Denver)

Car Parking:
You won't need a car, but if you have one, free parking is provided at the hotel.

Dress Code:
The dress code for the class is very casual and comfortable. The only exception being the wedding day. We recommend something along the line of semi-formal/business/jacket & tie optional, but still comfortable/workable clothing. (dark is good) More like a wedding guest, and less like a photographer.

Meals and Fun Time:
This should be a very comfortable stay for everyone, this hotel has just completed a multi million dollar renovation. Also every room is a two room suite, and includes a private balcony with a view, a made to order breakfast "on your own schedule" each morning in the atrium, before class.

In addition to the normal break times, we have a refreshing "working lunch" scheduled in the class room, and a casual Dinner is scheduled for about 5:30-6:00pm each day.

After diner you are on your own, and because Shay is fundamentally apposed to "home work" you wont have any!!! :clap So you can hang out at the heated indoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, sundeck or exercise facility. Or if you want to explore, Cheery Creek State Park it's 1 mile away, and the light rail can take you Downtown. :photo

See you in Denver!!! :barb

We'll have to figure it out, and yes, it will be FUN. I am making a veil. Shall we cover your mustache with it or should it be short just covering your eyes and under the combat helmet? :deal (lol)

Nik,

If the freebie comes in, maybe we can get Shay to model that one.
