My dad purchased this camera in Korea in 1953 and used it to document his army days.

Sid, it's an automatic timer.

It's a very simplistic timer. It screw-mounts onto the shutter release button, you spin the flag up and release and it unwinds like a pull toy mechanism and triggers the shutter in about 10 seconds.
