I was at the fair yesterday again. I'm pretty happy with this one,
what do you think?
The picture was taken with a Canon 10D at f22, 28mm with an
exposure of 8 seconds (with a 3x ND filter) at ISO 100.

I think we are quiet here as we have nothing to whip.
IMHO this shot is done, and should be printed big and mounted on your wall.
I wonder what the shot would look like if the ride tower to the left was vertical and the wonder wheel was tilted. Not better, but would be different.

I like the composition and the movement.
The only thing I'd prefer is a person in the image, to give it perspective.
But that's a small thing. I'd be proud to have taken this. :nod

Pros:
Composition. Very nice juxtaposition of X and Y axis
Long shutter speed creates great visual effect, especially with "fixed" signCons
Yet Another Ferris' Wheel shot ...:rolleyes :wink
Colors can be so much improved. :deal
Black sky is not black enough.
In general this looks like a classic case for LAB treatment, since only a handful of colors is present and nobody can catch you red-handed even if you tweak them considerably.
I agree with Sid that adding a scale (a silhouette of a child frozen in wonder) would improve the overall impression, but it's a minor.HTH

Yes another wheel shot :-) I'm trying
to improve them. Now that you mention
it I agree that something to show the scale
is missing. I'm struggling with the post
processing a bit. Lacking ps skillz and
lack of colorcalibration is sth that seems
to be in the way of my images more and
more frequently. For example the image
background renders pitch black on my monitor.
Thank you for your kind replies and your advices!

Ya Ya Ya another "fair" shot! However, this one is very well done:thumb as it goes a step beyond the basic. I believe this has composition and light but just needs the third element, a story!
Cheers and beers:clap

I have to agree with Marc, it's not 'just another wheel shot,' it's a damned good one but does need a 'story' as Marc puts it, thanks for sharing.

Hi Manfr3d,
I wanted to address your comment here about calibration of the monitor. Without a correctly calibrated monitor, you're really flying (color) blind. Believe me, I've been through this. Makes a world of difference having a monitor you know you can trust.
Check out Andy's link here (http://dgrin.smugmug.com/gallery/1174347) to read about the Huey system. It's not very expensive, retails for about $90 and I think there is a discount for SumgMug members. I bought a Spyder2 system from ColorVision and it changed my world, or at least my pictures-on-the-monitor world.
Check it out.
BTW, nice to see a German quote Ben Franklin about beer :D
Oh, and this is a terrific shot, as said.
Cheers

If your shot were a microwave dinner, you'd have left it in for about 20 seconds too long. Just a touch too much on the motion, i'd actually like to see more black. That's all I have.
