Grant,
I like this portrait and the black and white conversion you have used. The light seems to be spot on. Some people may not like the angled view but I think in here it helps to fill the frame very well.
If I was picky I'd point out:
1. with the uniform background you could have safely increased the DOF
2. I personally dislike people constantly showing V of FO finger symbols, however once you've decided to include it you should have made sure whole hand is in the frame and possibly in focus (see #1)
3. In this particular case I'd make some post processing effort and mask out the bench or whatever he is sitting on out.

Great light! Like the angle! Love the conversion!
I would also remove the dark curved line in the upper right.

i agree. the light and texture make this image so interesting. echo what elaine said about the top right hand corner.

Nice candid shot, nice lighting, and nice expression. Definitely captures his personality (and I don't even know him!). :thumb
