I've been lurking on many of these forums for quite a while now and felt a need to give The Whipping Post a try.
Please let me know what you think.

[edit] Just fixing the link. Not sure if this is the original or after some of the suggestions were used. Sorry.

Welcome Dave:D
It looks like the back ground is black and white and the flower you left in color. If so, I like your use of the effect. If not, then your light is remarkable!
Either way, that is the best part of the image. I am not crazy for the one tall straight pedal stickin out above the others opposed by the one opposite it drupin. Maybe I have just seen too many Georgia O'keefe flowers up close.
Great post hope we see you around:thumb

That's correct, I left the flower color. At first it was only because I couldn't figure out how to make it b&w and still have the 'glowing' yellow in the center. Then I just liked how it looked so left well enough alone.
Thanks for the feedback.

This is a great shot and well edited. My only comment for improvement is regarding the background, which has the bud on the right ans a few things in the bottom left hand corner. Although they are not severe, they are distracting as the overall tone of the photo is soft the background 'clutter' makes me easily distracted.
Overall though it's a great shot.

Thanks for the comments. I see what you mean about the background distractions. I'll see if I can do some more editing to blend the in.

Nicely done. I agree the background needs to be cleaned up a little.
Our composition and post processing can really control where the eye goes. The eye goes to the brightest and sharpest areas of the picture.
Try oversharpening the yellow stamen- it may be able to add some local pop and pull the eye in deeper.
Worked for a couple of my flower shots.
