Do you think I should crop off right at the top where the plywood ends.
That part of a window seems distracting to me.:dunno

Thoughts, comments,jokes critiques all welcome.

If you were to crop it off at the top of the plywood, I think you would lose the context of the whole image. There would be no reference. I wouldn't touch the cropping. How about a duotone?:wink

I too, like the first edit. But, I have to admit, even though I don't like the tighter crop as much, the color version is very, very nice also :thumb

Nice capture :clap

I love the first version :clap :clap :clap . NO doubt in my mind which I like.

great catch. Wish I had taken it. I love that kind of photography. I don't see it here, and I don't think I would see it in the "safe" areas downtown.

I would not crop it. Doing so gives it the appearance of being staged rather than real, organic.
I love the coldness of the original b/w.
The color plays offered are creative but just individually subjective.

Shakes, it would have been funnier if you had a shot of a drunk passed out against the wall. Sorry...no jokes this time.

as you shot it.

The monochrome is appealing and leaves a lot of 'play' room for the imagination of the viewer. Just the condition of the walls, the hand painted parking zone wording and the reinforced door handle speak volumes.

Thanks,

Hi Tim.. I prefer this version over the crops and color versions also. I prefer this crop because cropping off the top raises the plywood sign lettering too high - as it is, it's perfectly placed in the left upper third position. Not that that position is magic - it just seems right for this image. B&W helps the gritty-ironic feeling this image presents to the world.

The blue and orange colors are a lovely combination and look nice together, but don't fit the mood of this image to my mind. YMMV
Very nice capture Tim :thumb

Ginger I do not think there is a part of Calgary I feel unsafe in. But then again as the song goes..." I've got friends in low places".:evil

This shot actually is the alley way of a trendy area of town It is very much in a transition period right now.
