View Full Version : Some Keyword Questions

I conducted some google searches for some keywords in my galleries and got no results. If I google my name, my smugmug site is the top hit. If I google the keywords I get nothing. I googled something that should yield few results and should lead back to my site, such as "swierat wedding" from my last wedding shoot. I got 4 pages of hits, not a single one of which was mine. That gallery has been up a few weeks, certainly long enough for google to index it, right? Am I doing something wrong with the keywords? I've read through the help pages and looked through some of the forums but I'm doing what they suggest so far as I can see. Any help?

As a "for example", the gallery "Stephanie & Tony" in my weddings category is keyworded as such:

stephanie swierat "stephanie swierat" tony banaszek "tony banaszek" "stephanie banaszek" wedding marriage scranton "st anne's" reception ceremony adam morgansmith "adam morgansmith" photography "wedding photography" rochester "alfred ny" pa pennsylvania

I admit, I'm no good at the keywording thing, and I've got things in there to lead back to me and not just this wedding, but it seems reasonable that with these keywords, the search "swierat wedding" should turn up this gallery in google, dontcha think?

These keywords are in the keywords section of the gallery customization, and also in each the keywords of each picture of the gallery. What sort of suggestions would anyone offer here? Is it just the quixotic nature of google and there's nothing I can do about it? or am I doing something inherently wrong?

Ooh, I just went back to double check those keywords and everything from the first " on is gone, can I not use the quotes in the keywords? The help section uses quotes to group words into a single keyword, can I not do that?

I admit though, that the keywords grouped by quotes is a new addition, the other keywords were there before and, as far as I'm concerned, should still turn up the gallery in a "swierat wedding" search on google.

After following all the tips, I have no problem managing the keywords, but I have one question...

Do you have to show the KEYWORDS on the home page for the Web Crawler to find them? Or do they still exist on the HOME PAGE under HIDE?

Well, the keywords seem to be in there. So, do you think this is effective keywording?

Sure, when done in conjunction with ALL of the other tips.
