I told myself I would not involved myself with strobes, well I guess I lied to myself.
Picked up 2-AB 800 couple of umbrellas/stands/reflector/background stand and drops(which my GF made for me) and large octabox. To think I'm just getting started. Now I want 2 more lights/grids/gels/boom and a must have trans/receivers.My feet are pulling out the sync cord.
On the weekend we turn my GF house into a studio.I'm cramped already...hehehe.

Here is Pat my GF,lovely assistant and model.
1D MKII 50mm f1.8 silver bounced umbrella for main, octabox for fill and reflector.
Main @ f8 fill @5.6 target @f8 ISO100 125/sec
Some pp more than others.
Comments welcome please.

WOW JOHN!

Very nice setup. I too would LOVE to have some AB's?

Hope to see some great results, for what we have seen so far is awsome!

Maybe I will have to come over and play with your new toys. I dont think that I will be able to afford my own AB's for awhile.

Thanks for sharin'

The lighting looks good to me. Nice catchlights in the eyes. The DOF is not very great, but works well with these shots. ABs rock! The octobox is a really great modifier. Thanks for sharing. Please post some more. I'm really interested in improving my lighting techniques.

Can you tell me why you are shooting at f1.8 with that lens? Purposely trying to limit the DOF? With that great lighting setup, I would think you would close the lens down a bit.

Do you find the 50mm to be too short for portraiture?

Mitch Im shooting @ f8. 50 f1.8 is the lens I was using.
In cramped area,I find the 50 to be too long at times.

Thanks for looking folks.

Thanks for setting me straight. The DOF looked too good to be only f1.8.
I still wonder about using only a 50mm for portraits. Most subjects are less comfortable at that distance. She obviously is relaxed around you with a camera. Nice shots and the lighting looks great.

Lighting looks nice. Backdrops also look good.
