For the gulls that is. When the tide is going out they gather at this inlet and look like they're washing themselves. Wings aflutter, sitting in the water, splashing water over themselves -- it's quite a sight to see, but difficult to isolate into good composition.

So these are just general overall photos for you to enjoy. Taken at Pillar Point Harbor, Princeton by the sea, north of Half Moon Bay.

The thing I hadn't notice before was the wave action. Little wavelets would come from the south, but they were also coming from the west, creating fascinating patterns but frustrating the gulls!

It seems that there must be something special that attracts the birds. Maybe it's the wave action itself. It might be fun to try to get just the waves in the shot with no birds, the patterns could make an interesting composition. I like the way these waves are heading toward each other. :thumb

I've never noticed the waves acting like that before. I don't know if it was just some strange wind conditions, or if it's a tidal thing. We don't go to this spot every week, but maybe once a month, so the tide's never the same. You can be sure I'll keep my eyes open next time we go there.
