Hi Laurie,
I think that both photos are very nice and well composed, but I think that 'Reading by Candle Light' is my favourite.
Hope this helps,
David

Laurie, I like read by candle light best, too. Could you make it a bit more obvious with the eyeglasses and book, or whatever, that it has to do with reading.
(I keep thinking you could call it power outage.......my little bit of humor there)

Laurie, both very beautiful!
I too prefer the idea in 'Reading by Candle Light' although you might want to work out the exposure so not to burn the flame and get the background a little clearer - easy huh? :wink
'Piano by Candle Light' is also very nice but the way the candles are arranged it's seems a little difficult to play the piano.

Thank you, I was leaning toward "Reading" myself. I will try it again to work on the flame, but I wanted the background blurred. I wanted the focus to be the lamp and the book and glasses to be just supportive. Maybe I was wrong in trying it that way? :dunno I agree that the flame is too 'burned' (no pun intended! :rofl )
Thanks for the input...please keep it coming!

I think that the flame is a bit blown out in the first photo, so it makes it hard to tell it was a flame. Possibly a bit of PS work can bring it out.

Here is another attempt at it:

I did some layering to get the flame to look good and I rearranged the setting so it's obvious that there are books around. Is this any better? :dunno

Here is another one I reworked from the first shoot. I'm not sure if I like this angle as much as the first one, but I think the flame is better. I'm finding it difficult to capture a "good" flame from the oil lamp since it's made to be bright by nature. :scratch

Any other suggestions?

I do like that one better. The glasses are more visible too.

My vote is for this version, but I'm usually in the minority with my choices. :D

I really like the unexpected whimsy of the piano shot. Perhaps a different title? "Music Lights Up My Life"?
