idea for my site...but how to do it?

with sports starting up again here, I'd like to try to keep parents & kids looking at my website..My thought is to have my site pretty much the same but, to also have one large photo on the opening page that I can easily change each week. Like the photo of the week picked by the parents /kids...any ideas on how to set it up for people to be able to vote on photos ? plus trying to configure the site to throw a large photo up is hurting my brain...I could use some help there too.

1. run the slideshow extremely slowly :rofl
2. show popular photos and have a faq page explaing the thumbs up/down mouseover voting system
