Now, that we all have straightened ourselves up (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=56449), let indulge ourselves into a more soft mood and celebrate the advent of Spring!

I don't mean those metal or plastic thingies. I also don't mean the water source (although it's possible to have a Spring of Spring:-). I mean the season. You know, melting snow (if you had any, that is), blossoming trees, lovers not giving a damn what others think...
The feeling.
The feeling of Spring.
Catch it - and you're in!

As always: fresh pictures, moderate post-processing.
For the rest of the basic rules and index please check out this sticky (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=41800).

Let's celebrate the Spring!

Welcome to the Class! :clap

Is it a nice shot? Hell, yeah! :thumb

Does it cry "Spring"? Well, no, not really. Summer, probably. Beach. Girls. But no Spring feeling, for me at least...:dunno

Let's think together: Spring is a transition from Winter to Summer. Air is still clear and cold. Buds are everywhere. The plants spring from the ground. Snow patches. Ground is still dumpy with melted snowwater...

Give me Spring, or hold your peace:-)

I hope to be able to post a picture out of schedule, but with a photo taken during the shedule :dunno .

I am in India now. :D

I can take photos - I am doing so very often - but I can not post them.

I'll do so as soon as I come back home! :D :thumb

Rain, Baseball, and flowers is the only hints we have that it is suppose to be spring! :D

No i think today it has decided it is winter, it is cold and raining, and daylight saving ended last night, so roll on spring i say, but to answer your question it's Autumn.

Matthew

In this case, how about adding some treatment at least :wink

I played with channel swapping a bit, but the easiest path and biggest ROI (not the best quality, mind you - best ROI, like 95% of improvement with 5% of efforts) turned out to be some simple yet bold curves in luminosity mode.

Hope you don't mind me mangling your image :rolleyes

"Every image has 10 channels" (Dan Margulis) :deal

If you didn't read his latest book yet - I humbly suggest to do so.
If nothing else, you would never have to say or feel things like "color X is dominant, hence I could not do anything about it" ever again :wink
It will simply become a non-issue, trust me. Take it from a former Sony guy (Sony sensors were notoriously infamous for over-saturating the reds :dunno )

Sorry. Robins are migratory birds. Here in the Northeast U.S., in New York, robin red breasts are very much a specific symbol of spring, as they migrate back for the summer. They'll leave again in the fall, and it all starts over again the next spring. And, so it goes. Migratory birds are Spring. :D

Springtime in Atlanta means pollen; today's Pollen count is "very high," apparently mostly from Oak trees. See http://weather.weatherbug.com/GA/Alpharetta-weather/pollen-count.html ... the pine trees haven't even started yet.

This image is of a car in the parking lot at my office.

Is it like water taces + pollen? :nod I suspect that the car was outside in the early morning and got some dew, then the pollen stuck more where the dew was.

Nik, a Robin is practically the American bird of spring. At least where I grew up. Robins are mentioned in literature, children's books, poetry, articles, etc as being synonymous with spring. The first Robin of the year is reason for rejoicing as that means spring must be here.

The woodpecker I don't know about. Robins are a common bird everywhere I have lived whereas I saw my first woodpecker last year. And it was in the spring. The only ones I have seen last yr and this were in the spring, but they may be here year round.

Before the folliage gets thick on the trees, I discovered last yr, many small birds can be seen that get lost in the leaves during the warmer times of the year.

I love this time of year when the folliage is a special pale green. It is still not thick, but the birds are getting more difficult for me to see, the little ones are. However, I love the color of the green, that early spring green, almost as much as I love seeing the birds.

That is why I really like that photographed that I was lucky enough to take of the woodpecker. That is as close as I have come to "capturing" the spring folliage in a photograph, the color I mean. What is around the woodpecker is as important to me as the bird him/herself. Each one sets the other off.

That bird was very high up, and he did not appear to find what he was looking for while I was trying to photograph him. Hence, it was a bit of a chase with my eyes and my lens and the bird, trying to bring them all together at the same time. He may not have as many pixels as if he had come nearer, but it could have been much worse. The photo gods of spring smiled!

O.k. - why?:ear Always interested in getting better/getting it right.

The reason the i2e tweak is more appealing to me is due in part to the greens. To me the grass looks better. But, the skin tones are still to red. I was also trying to get rid of some of he dark shadows in the face, but then that lightens the whole image. Yeah - I know this can be tweaked with masks - but I was trying to get something without that extra step.

Ok, this is my first time posting in the technique section. This isn't a great photo, but I do feel it gives the feeling of spring. I want to reshoot this, but the weather sure doesn't seem to want to cooperate.

I dislike the dark shadow on her face and I think it's too pinky or orangy or something, but I keep trying to adjust it and it ends up worse. But I love the innocence of her picking up the easter eggs.

Spring comes slowly here. The white of the Blackthorn blossom is always the beginning of spring. Promising good things for making sloe gin after the frost in the winter. There is always a late frost which takes most of the early blosssom making the sloes are harder to find.

Proper sloe gin should be made with Plymouth Gin rather than London Gin but I prefer using vodka to Gin

So here is the start of spring, the start of sloe gin making, the start of my ski holiday hip flask. All good things start with white blossom...

Thanks for the nice compliments! :D

I included the tree in the frame because I felt like it balanced things out better. Honestly, I hadn't noticed the similarities in the branches and legs, but now I love it even more. Great observation!

Thanks. They are both just fortunate use of midday sun. I underexposed the poppies to preserve color and the green just vanished into the shadows which suited me fine for the shot. The Camilias in the background of the lilys are just naturally a dark plant, and the sun was shining nearly directly down the gullet of the lilies which made them glow. The lilies are in my garden so I plan more shots of them before they fade.

I have been doing too much of the high contrast light lately. I'm going to have to start doing something else before I get type-cast.

Saw this family yesterday on a boat cruise in the park, thought it might qualify.

A little late to the game, but how about this for spring? This is my very first picture I have posted on this site.

This was taken in April, in Maine. It is the start of my daffodils, which are now gone!

Nice picture, :thumb but you are breaking the major rule: fresh pictures only! :deal
Meaning: you need to be aware of the assignment in the first place before you take the shot. You can't use your archive images just because they happen to match any of the themes.
But now that you know of it, there is always next Spring :-) :wink
