The weather was decent enough for me to go out and do some shooting today, and while trying to shoot some bees this guy set down close to me.

This is my first decent outing with the Xti and I'm seeing a graininess that I didn't see when shooting with the 20D. I've heard of the Xti under exposing, and since I shoot at -2/3 EV I think the grain is just magnified noise from adjusting the exposure in post processing. Next time I'll shoot at 0 EV and see what happens...

Thanks Brian! I was using a flash for fill so I got some detail even though the critter was back lit :wink
Now if I can just get use to the way the Xti under exposes...

Yes, these are from the Xti and I'm using the MR-14 as my flash. The MT-24 is in storage waiting for me to get back to abstract and studio work...

Nice one Dalantech, a green eyed butterfly :D
Did you get to see the inside of its wings at all?
I'm curious as to what colour they were when open.
Great shots :clap ..... Skippy

You can almost see the spots from the side I was shooting from. They didn't open until the critter took off :)

Outstanding closeups! I can never get one to sit still long enough or allow me to get close enough to capture pics like you have done!! Excellent.
What lens setup were you using for these?

I got lucky: I was sitting in the grass waiting for some bees to get close and the butterfly landed less than a meter away. I moved slowly to get close to it and it instinctively froze...
I've been shooting with Canon's 100mm macro lens for a little over a year now -great color and contrast with that glass!

Thanks! Using a flash for fill saved me on that one...
