View Full Version : My first Wood Duck

I have seen pictures of this duck only but I have wanted to get a picture of it so after a training at work which was near White Rock Lake in the Dallas area, I stopped by the lake and I found one. It was shot in very harsh light and I was afraid of overexposing the shot so it ended up being a bit dark. I lightened it up a bit in Photoshop.

That is cool, I like where he is "perched". I photographed one the other day, I think he was a bit dark, too, and not perched nicely, but I think I will go check it out. I am not seeing them this year like I have in the past. And in the past, I ignored them, beginner that I was/am, or idiot. smile.
Yours is super cool!

I literally was laid out prostrate on my stomach not more than 2 inches to the water. And there were tons of cormorants above me which would occasionally come to close to giving me an unwanted "waste" shower. :huh

Yeah, my relationship with the sun, as I said in another thread, is sort of love/hate right now. I need the light, but I can't seem to compensate for the type of light hitting the subject. I guess I need to play with the exposure values and shoot in RAW more often.

Patience.......................................... .................................................. ................................:rolleyes
Nothing wrong with the technical aspects of this shot. I find that luck is the biggest factor in getting a real good one when doing wildlife.

Yes. I might go in and try again, but I was afraid of "blowing out" some of the colors.
