Today when I was outside hanging out the washing,
I checked out the plants to see if I could seen any bugs :rolleyes
it's a habit :rofl can't help meself :rofl

I found this little thing, at first I thought it was some kind of bettle,
but when I disturbed it, it flew off like a fly would.
It came back, then I noticed there were quite a few of them.

These creatures are very tiny and I did not see the eye until I
actually had taken the shot and reviewed it, that's how small this bug is.

I'd guess the entire bug is approximately a half cm or 1/4inch in size.
When you see it this big in a picture it reminds me of a Cicadas when they first come up out of the ground before they split their shells.

Anyone know what it is? :scratch ..... Skippy :D

http://www.geocities.com/brisbane_cicadas/images/Banksi1.jpg Body length 10mm Mid summer in Alexandra Hill, all the Swamp Banksia plants had the new shots. On every new shot there were the treehoppers. Those Banksia Treehoppers were black in colour with bright orange and yellow on their body and wings. The black pronotum extending back over the abdomen and cover between wings.

Well there ya go, well we do have a lot of natives in the area, and I know the people around here plant lots of natives.
It's such a tiny thing, once I found one, I noticed there were actually heaps of them on the plant, but once disturbed they just would fly and move, or simply fly away, thanks for the ID Pete :clap .... Skippy

Beautiful capture!

It's a leaf hopper, or tree hopper, both are very similar. Thousands of varieties. They use a tube-like mandible to suck the fluids from the insides of stems. Leaf hoppers attack annual, soft bodies plants, while tree hoppers feed on woody plants.

Thank you :D the plant they are feeding on is quite woody and has sharp prickles on it too ... actually there are a couple of catapillars having a go at the same plant, but they don't seem to be doing too much damage to it.

They have probably been there the whole time, and I have just never taken any notice of them, because they are so small.

Thank you for your input :D ..... Skippy

I don't know what it is Skip. But it's from Australia so it's probably so poisonous that it'll kill you in 10 seconds if you get within 5 (edit: 1.524 metre...) feet of it. So I'd steer clear if I were you. :huh

nice shot though :D
