Whadya think of this? :scratch

Got this in my change a few months back.
Quite odd I thought.

I'm thinking of putting it on Evilbay and see where it goes?
My start to my 30D funding I guess. :dunno

Taken with my Sigy 105mm...(RAW)for lighting one of my workshop light rigs with 150watt flood.
Pre CS2'd in LightRoom....was a chance to play with it. :rolleyes

For the date to be that worn with age....there would be little or no detail on the whole coin.

Dunno if it was ground off someone woulda had to be a expert with a dremel!
No real damage other than that one spot.

Maybe I'll just hang onto it and take it to a coin person sometime.
Just add it to my BLANK quarter....yeah got one of those too.
Yes they exist and it IS odd!

Hi Graphy ... Looks like the bottom of the image is blurred?
I see the number ONE, but the base of the head and that lower part of the coin looks blurred compared to the sharpness of the rest of the image :scratch

I am with Skippy on this one, where the date should be looks like it has had a bad case of the cloning tool applied. Strange that it is blurred only there, can you provide a macro more centered and closer on this area?

Since coins are struck ( ibeleive we use an automated striking system but have never visted a mint so I am not postive).......this looks like the hammer or base slipped just a little...take a good look at IN GOD WE TRUST....the "IN" is smeared.....What does the back side look like...... any defects??

How about a shot of the blank one also:D

EDIT: grammer errors..spelling, misplaced letters and such......

Honest to GOD all I did was correct color resize and USM.
NO cloning!
I tried to scan the coin but it looked like hell so I did a macro.

Still think it's Photoshop'd?

Hummmmmmm.....don't think so.
I don't think it was "Tooled" either.....JUST the date is messed up.

I can now see that it does not looked PS'd in your new pic. Perhaps a piece of metal got pressed into part of the date area of the die and when the coin was struck it only would give a hint of the numbers?? Interesting for sure, I would send an email to one of the mints and see if they could tell you how this could happen.

Dunno what the story is with it? :scratch
If someone did that I dunno how without damaging the bottom of the BUST or the thin ring detail at the bottom.
Extremely small area to mess with without damaging the said areas.
If someone were to "Dremel" that area it woulda been uneven or other damage woulda been done.....not to mention a microscope would be needed to even do it.
Just plain strange......:huh

Well I tossed it on evilbay to see what happens.
Either it's worth something or it's not. :dunno

Hi,
I cant find the link now, but it has been reported in the Australian papers that the US mint has made a mistake in the minting of some coins. They are not sure how many, but there are already some coins for sale on e-bay.

If I find the reference, I'll post it for you. The following is not the link i was looking for as this one seems to only discuss the dollar coin:
