These guys are the first band I ever shot. I got lots of practice at shooting high ISO, barely adequate shutter speed, maxed-out fast prime lens piccies in bizarre small club lighting.
Last night they played again for the first time in many months. It's also the first time I've been back in a club, so I had to relearn some stuff. I'll say this: the 85 f1.8 is a terrific little lens, fast and sharp. The extra half stop or so from f2.0 is really noticeable.

They're called the Derek Clegg band, by the way.
Couldn't decide if I liked the B&W or color better. So I'm posting the B&W first. Maybe the color later.

Did you use a flash with these or is the lighting from the club?

Nice! The first is a real winner, and the pic of the Ric. Good stuff.

Love that first shot :clap well I like all the shots, but the colour tones and the angle you have captured the guitar and the hand that plays it, is really cool :D ..... Skippy

No flash, all available light. I find flash really uglifies everything. It reveals all the crap that's behind the players, and it uses the most unflattering light possible, to do so. :uhoh
I did ask the guy who ran the lights if he could keep them high, because I'd be photographing the band. I was really surprised that he agreed to. He said there wasn't much light (and there wasn't) but at least he kept what was there, pretty high.

The bass player is a guy I work with, he's the reason I shoot this band.

The guitar player is new to them, he didn't really know the songs, and apparently he used unconventional fingerwork, he's self taught. Sounded very good to my untrained ears.

Oooooooh...A Rickenbacker bass - one of the heaviest and smoothest axes I've every played...tell your work friend I admire his classic...old school does not need 5 or 6 strings...

it's cool.....Pete & Roger (can't quite bring myself to call two members "The Who" :scratch) are playing tonight in Indy, so I'll get my early 70s rock fix....:ivar
