View Full Version : Pay It Forward Thread: list your items HERE!

I've received a request to start a "pay it forward" thread for small items. I like this idea, because it will minimize the total number of threads... let's do it.
Place your pay it forward's in here, this is anything that you are not really seeking payment for, except perhaps shipping costs. I'll stretch the limits in this thread to include stuff that is on the periphery of photography (electronics, computer peripherals, etc), but please NO cats or kitchen sinks!
Please title your post with the name of the item, and try to remember to come back to your post and edit in "GONE" when you have paid it forward. Thanks!

Since I requested it and am celebrating yet another forum membership here, here is what is up for grabs.
I have a new Canon EOS body cap, fits the EOS line and has EOS on it, not Canon. Generic, but if you need a spare body cap for one of your many bodies, here is your chance. First one to PM me "I WANNA GET CAPPED" in the CONUS gets this mailed via USPS first class to their door. I only ask that you then offer something up to extend the chain.
THIS ITEM IS NOW CLOSED

UPDATE, cap has a new home with Bauerman!
Bauerman's turn to post up something, stay tuned....
Might as well reply to let folks know the thread is paying forward with something new....

I've got a Canon EOS 630 camera body in decent shape, GONE with a couple extra batteries. Works fine, looks ok. Has a little bit of gunk on the shutter (you can read about this common problem all over), but it isn't affecting it. $10 for shipping and its yours.
I also have an extra generic canon ef rear lens cap, if anyone needs one...
PM or email me. Thanks!

[Edit] Taken - Sending to Seymore on Monday.
I've got a Nikon SB-28 owners manual as well as the Magic Lantern Guide in case anyone wants them. I figure that maybe some budding "Strobist" (http://www.strobist.blogspot.com/) might find them useful. Take one or both. I'll mail them free. 1st PM.
BTW, are you the same Teamspeed that bought my 17-85IS a couple of years ago on FM? (my nick is IPCINC on FM)

I've got a generic battery for nikon, brand new in box never used. I bought three of them and barely use 2 batteries. The D70 is crazy with it's battery life.
So it's the same as an EN-EL3 unit it looks to be made at the same factory as the nikon branded units. I could be wrong but who knows. It goes to the first one that pm's me. Free shipping to somebody that can use it. Just post something of value if you claim it.

Nikon CL61A hard case intended for the 400mm f/3.5 IF-ED. This retails for over $200-300+. (linky (http://www.nikon.com.sg/productitem.php?pid=760-a7130ba336), lens linky (http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/telephotos/400mm1.htm)) The retaining strap for the lid is broken but can be repaired and there are a few scratches. I bought this intending to repair it and use it for my AF 300/4, but it's far to big and eating room on my lens shelf.

(Item has been spoken for and sent) O.k. I just saw this thread, and am new to this site (so I haven't lucked out and snagged any free goodies yet,) and I have a Digital rebel xti Digital field guide by Charlotte K Lowrie. I got to read it a little bit, and then my xti got stolen along with most of my lenses. The silver lining in all this is I replaced it with a 30D and love it.
But, I sure don't need this book anymore. It's actually a really good book for that camera; especially if you are fairly new to the dslr world. It's like the book that should have come with the camera.
It got a little mangled by amazon when they shipped it (just bent, nothing got ripped) but it's free if anyone wants it. I will cover shipping, but it will be the cheapest shipping, since I am poor from trying to replace SOME of my goodies that were lost. :huh Just PM me if Interested Book has been spoken for and sent!

Hi, I stupidly put this in the wrong thread, since no one replied, I deleted it and hope the message doesn't show up twice.
Anyway, I recorded Travels from the Edge, "Bolivia" with Art Wolf. It's a fun 1/2 hour show, produced by Canon. Kind of neat to watch a travel piece with a photog. Bolivia is amazing !!! Mountains, flamingos, lakes, desert, saltflats, cactus. The video is stunning, the landscape stills are amazing, and sureal, I even liked the music :rofl.
Since it's copied from TV, it's not copy protected . Any one with a computer that can make DVDs can copy it. Then you can keep it and send a copy to the next person.
Any interest?

Alright - I've got a HP Deskjet 9650 large format printer that goes to the first person who wants it and is willing to pay all the shipping costs. I'll look around for ink, but no promises on that.
You can choose the method, USPS or UPS, the speed, the amount of insurance (if any), and I'll get the total and have you paypal it (plus the 3% paypal fee) to me.
I'd love for someone to have this, but I'm not going to lose money sending it to you (I'm just not that nice!)
If you're in the Charlotte NC, Rock Hill SC area (or perhaps even GA) we can find a way to make it work without shipping.

These are now gone.
O.k. - new toys are arriving. I no longer need the following, and they are not so great that I need to sell them.
So, *free* to a good home are:
1. SLIK 212AF aluminum 3-section semi-heavy duty tripod with geared center column and a SLIK single action panhead. Feet are rubber knobs that are threaded onto pointed ends so that you can use either the rubber or (by simply turning the rubber ends) the pointed ends. The panhead is a pistol-grip ballhead with a bubble level. Well-used, but still in good condition. This ballhead tends to slip when mounted to heavy camera/lens combinations and when positioned at a larger angle. I noticed this when using my 20D with the battery grip combined with my 28-300 lens. Otherwise it is a solid mount.
2. Velbon Victory 450 light-duty 3-section tripod with geared central column and a lever locking camera mount. This tripod was rarely used and is in excellent condition.
I will accept paypal just to cover all shipping costs that will be determined once you are interested.

*EDIT* - Items have been claimed.
So I would have put some stuff up sooner but I've been crazy busy. I got the printer from Pupator so here is some stuff for the next person...
I've got:
(8) Bulk film canisters that are in great shape.
I used them several years ago for a B&W Photographer class and haven't used them since.
(1) "Film Picker 4"
A nifty doo-dad that you can use to retrieve the end of the film from inside the canister (Photo labs use them to process film)
(1) Olympus OM2000 Film Camera with a Hanimex 28mm f/2.8 lens
Somebody gave me this camera and I have never used it. It's a little beat up but it appears to function properly. The shutter speeds seem to be timed right and the electronic metering seems to work properly. The timer lever apprears to be non-functioning but I may not know how to work it...
So if somebody wants any or all of this let me know and it's yours.

Hi all,
I am an assistant photo editor at the Daily Tar Heel, a student paper at the University of North Carolina. Our photographers seem to love abusing our small stock of equipment, and we are now missing many lens caps, body caps, and end caps. If anyone has some extra caps lying around (or anything else for that matter) and would like to support student photojournalism, then we would love the donations. PM me if you have anything you're not using!

Hi -- back in April my old 601 case got stolen along with my original Digital Rebel, 18-55 kit, 70-300 crap lens, and nifty 50mm. (Yeah, I don't exactly remember how now, but somehow all that gear fit into that tiny bag -- oh, maybe it was a 602.)
http://www.tamrac.com/601.htm
ANYways, I recently got a replacement XTi and the 50mm and have another old Tamrac 601. But there's no foam divider, so right now the 18-55 is in bubblewrap banging around a bit too much. Does anybody happen to have one of those Velcro Foam Dividers from a camera bag that they're not using?
Thanks!

This is a great idea! This is how i got most of my camera gear from a great person. They gave me a almost new F100/ 20-35mm 2.8/ 24mm 2.8 and 50mm 1.4 for nothing other than i wanted to get into photography. My friends grandpa worked at a newspaper and it had been sitting for a year unused (since they switched to digital) He got them to donate it to me and he gave me a nice collection of glass from himself as well. As soon as i have something to give i gladly will!

I've sent one Bolivia to Saurora, and one to Madirect.
I've also sent Africa-Madagascar to bham..

1 - Unreal Tournament 2004
1 - Day of Defeat
1 - Mafia w/ Prima's Official Strategy Guide

Funny, this discussion about BP-511 batteries. Anybody need an extra charger?
My camera was stolen last April, but the charger was at home.
It's useless to me now as I've upgraded to a Rebel XTi, which uses different batteries (thanks a lot, Canon. :P)
So, if anybody needs a second charger for BP-511s or BP-512s, let me know.

So as I was thinking the other night about how I want a new lens to play with, but am too cheap/poor to afford one, I thought -- hey, maybe I could try jerry-rigging my own pinhole "lens" out of a body cap.
But after ransacking my office and other likely suspects, I can't find that body cap that I had (uselessly) screwed into the rear lens cap (I don't know what the term is).
So -- does anybody have a spare?
Yes yes -- putting a lens cap that I have drilled a hole has the potential to introduce dust and plastic fragments into the body of my camera. It's ok -- I'm living dangerously. :-}
Thanks!

Barely used - parallel port connection to a PC (not USB). Includes scanner and power cable (the parallel cable disappeared some time ago for reasons unknown to me). The scanner can be seen here: Visioneer PaperPort 6100 (http://support.visioneer.com/products/home/EOL/6100/default.asp) (though this shows only the USB version). The site will give the proper driver and the manual.
If you are close by to Southern Maryland (within a day or two for ground shipping) then I will eat the shipping costs.
Interested? Send me a PM.

It's me again. I have another 2 new in package keyring neoprene card cases/holders. They are nifty looking and I think weather resistant too! Scroll up a couple of posts and you'll see the photo of them.
I also have 2 100% legal disks of Sandisk's Rescue PRO V. 3.2 for Windows and Mac. I guess the program is used for recovering files from CF cards even if the files have already been deleted (I have never tried this).
All these items are free, though a $2 shipping payment would be awesome to cover shipping and gas to the P.O. :D
One item per person please.

UPDATE:::
TRIGGERS GONE!!
LOOK OUT FOR RBGIVINS POST IN THE FUTURE TO PAY IT FWD:::
radio strobe triggers.
These are the Cactus V2's or infamous "EBay triggers"
http://www.gadgetinfinity.com/product.php?productid=16766&cat=0&page=
I got them NIB and the transmitter didn't work. I contacted the company and they would have issued a refund. But I was just too busy (or lazy) to ship them back to Hong Kong.
This includes 1 transmitter and two receivers w/ all the stuff that came originally in the box.
NOTE:::::
THE TRANSMITTER IS MOST LIKELY BROKEN. I CAN"T MAKE STROBES FIRE W/ THIS SETUP. But like I said, the receivers are fine. If your an electronics (not software) geek, I bet you could fix this.
I'll ship anywhere. But a few bucks to PayPal would be nice to help ship this off.
PM me.

I've been needing some protection for the end of my Canon 24-70... I'm not sure what the 812 filter is, but I could make good use of the UV and polarizer! If someone else could use the 812 better than I, I won't lay claim to it. :D

Anyone have any used, beat-up, scratched GND, ND or circular polarizing filters in 72mm or 77mm sizes that they want to dispose of? (or filter holders and square filters) I really want to learn how to use these types of filters but can't afford to buy a good one. I'd rather not buy a cheapie only to buy an expensive one later. I'd be willing to pay for shipping - just can't afford to pay for a filter. I don't care what condition they're in - I'm not looking to create award winning photos.
Thanks! Sorry for the beg!

Pay it forward is for free items that people are giving away. The recipient of a free item then has to give something else up for free.
You need to post in the Canon forum. Make your title like this:
FS/FT: [Lens name]
Then in the body, describe the lens and its condition. Include a few pictures. Name your price and shipping terms. At the end say "I'm also in the market for an APO 150mm and would consider trades or an outright purchase."

So I took off today, reading through forums' "is my lens sharp" and "how do I adjust my lens" posts, saw a couple where folks were discussing the best methods, and decided maybe I can help those that are having a hard time with adjustments. I used this after I made it, and adjusted my 17-55 another +2, so it seemed to work better for me than my prior method.
It is free, just download the word doc off my site. It is a template with 3 folds on each sheet, a cut here and there, and viola! I know it is not as nice as the products that are out there now for adjustments, but this is free and you can make it yourself if you have a printer. It may be temperamental to keep standing, but stand a book or something behind the focus sheet, and it should be just fine. It's free, whaddya expect?! ;)
If you have any minor suggestions, please let me know and I can try to address them. Maybe this can be the defacto focus chart for DIYers instead of either purchasing a product or just using the old focus screen everybody points to and then folks have a hard time using it.

4) Small CaseLogic CD/DVD case. This holds 24 CDs or DVDs and zips up. It's nice and small and good for travel.

This might be a bit backwards, but I've paid forward one or two things but haven't gotten anything yet (nothing I really need!)
HOWEVER, I'm gifting my old Nikon D50 to a just-out-of-college-and-broke-poor friend who has a film SLR and crappy point and shoot and is forever frustrated by her photography. Since I haven't touched my D50 in 1.5 years, I figured it was better off in her hands (it needs love!). So far I've someone donating an old Lowepro slingshot, I've got old 2G SD cards for her, a mediocre polarizer, two quantaray lenses (oh dear! but it is something to start with), a flash diffuser, a smugmug strap, a cleaning cloth, and the D50 manual somewhere.
Do you have more cleaning supplies (lens brush, cleaning fluids, etc?). Or a hotshoe protector? an old kenko tube? Or any other filters for 58mm or 55mm lenses? a beat up 50mm 1.8? I'd love to set her up 'properly' (although anything bigger than 90mm lens wise she'll have to buy on her own unless someone has a good one that just looks like crap and therefore difficult to sell).
It'll be a few weeks before I ship this all off to her. I'm willing to comp shipping costs.
THANKS!
ps. or an old copy of Understanding Exposure? either old or newer edition :D

Suzanne: My mother-in-law gave me a Nikon EM + 50/1.8 Series E kit to sell for her. I've been able to sell the 50/1.8E, but no one seems interested in the EM. It needs new light seals and a new battery, but otherwise I believe it's in operable condition. Let me know if you're interested, and if so, I can check with my mother-in-law to see if she's ok with it being donated (I imagine she'd be fine with it).

Batteries are obviously cake, but I have yet to do a light seal replacement. Suppose there is always a first time! It would help when I'm teaching 50 high schoolers at a time. :D

Ok, I'll ask the mother-in-law and see what she says. From what I've read replacing the light seals isn't too difficult. If you want to shoot me a PM with the address, I can send it once she approves. :D
PS: The EM doesn't have a manual mode -- aperture priority only from what I can tell. Is this ok for your course?
PPS: She said it's ok, but requested a receipt (for tax purposes). Is this something you can provide? Just let me know in the PM and we can discuss more there.

Suzanne, I've PM'd you a couple times with no response, so I'm trying here... Did you ever get the camera in the mail? It was sent a few weeks ago. I also haven't received a receipt (as you said you would send), my body cap I included to protect the camera but requested back, or even a word of thanks... Kind of discouraging... :dunno

I have 2 Sandisk 256M (128x2) Memory Sticks that I bought NEW in 2003 for one of my first digi-P&S's, a Sony S85. Well, they've been sitting on the shelf for a few years now and I can't see using these any more.
Drop me a PM or email if you can use these, yours for the asking...

I'm trying to tidy up my bin of "computer/photo stuff" - if there's anything that catches your eye in the photo below, it's yours (except for the green couch)!

In mostly clockwise order from top left, that's an ipod/iphone cupholder thingy, a Sandisk CF card reader, random power cable, a firewire iphone/ipod cable, a VGA adapter from the old 12" Powerbook (complete w/caps!), a USB mouse, more USB-to-mini USB cables than you can shake a stick at, an iTrip FM transmitter for the old ipod with that weirdo connector, and a similarly afflicted airClick remote for said ipod. Oh, right, and the RAM is 2Rx16 PC2-6400S - 2 sticks at 1gb each.
Nothing wrong with any of this stuff - all the gadget items work fine.
*edit: card reader and mouse have been paid forward. everything else still here.

The other end is firewire, though, so it won't work for anything besides charging (I'm pretty sure)

Can you used older 10base-t? I have a DLINK 4 port you can have... drop me a PM or email. :deal :dealDarn, I forgot about that! 10Mbps would defeat the purpose of a hub... I got a free ISP upgrade, so I can actually run at up to 16Mbps. The whole point of the hub was to acheive that speed - I was just running wireless up to now.
Thanks anyway, and I guess I should post a WTB, unless anyone has a faster hub they don't need.

OK, understood. Thanks for splainin', sorry I can't help then. Hope someone else can fill that void for ya...
So, you only got a B router now? (11mbps wireless) I'd suggest thinking of that as an upgrade... They're quite cheap if you can find a G router. Good luck mate...

Got a cabled D-Link 10Mbps hub (DE-805TP (http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-805TP-10Mbps-Ethernet-5-Port/dp/B000023VUO)) w/uplink port to mail anywhere in the lower 48. Small little 4 port hub. Email or PM if you can use it.

I am interested in perhaps doing some trading for:
1) 58mm filters
2) Sony VCL-DH1758
3) either the Raynox DCR-250 or 150.
Thanks...

You should start a thread with "WTT" (want to trade) in the title. The "Pay it forward" thread is for freebees, not trades. :D And you might not want to use such a big font in the future.

I just picked up another one of these for my laptop, they are excellent; especially now that it is less than $11.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00109Y2DQ/onesimus/
I paid $19 for my first one and $13 for my 2nd one, now $11 for my third one. My old ones are still working (now for over 2 years).
Good luck.

You pay shipping only on any of these. I'm headed out of town Wednesday for 2 weeks so they might not get shipped until I get back.
1) Hoya HMC 52mm UV(N)
2) Sigma DG UV Filter 52mm
3) Promaster FTD 5700 Flash (A real cheap flash, but it works and it might be good for a beginner who needs to learn bounce flash)
4) Quickqrip strap - this is the generic of the BlackRapid RS-7. It's fraying a bit but still works fine. I used this to figure out if I wanted this style of strap long-term. I did, so I bought the good one.
5) Generic wrist strap. No name, no brand. Attaches to tripod mount.
If you request a free item - make sure you have something to pay forward. You'll need to post a freebie for someone else before I ship any of these to you. One item per person please.
