Single light setup w/ medium softbox. Just practicing some low key style portraiture.

That's so cool - to see her eye and the outline of the lens on the "dark side" - really nifty!

Hello,

I am a huge newbie and have no clue what a "single light setup w/ a medium softbox" even IS, but I sure know what I like, and I love this shot. The shading/lighting is perfect, your model is gorgeous, her expression is wondrous for the shot, and lastly, I like how her glasses are not pushed all the way back on her nose.

Yahoo for you! :thumb

Enjoy your softbox,

wren

the ONLY thing I would have changed is a White Reflector on the dark side of the face.

Love it! Awesome contrast and I can see why you didn't use a reflector for the dark side... Creates an awesome effect! :thumb

Wow, excellent lighting for a portrait, I love it! As others have commented, just having the eye on camera left outlined is an excellent effect. The model doesn't do the picture any harm, either :D

I'll go with everyone here and tell you it's a very well-lit picture!
The effect in the eyes is just beautiful, and I like the model's expression too, it's really nice!

I assume you're having great fun with your studio lights!

Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the great comments everyone, more and more I prefer shooting with my strobes. I think I need to get some practice in with natural lighting though. I just need to pick up faster lens.

Why does this hobby have to be so dang expensive :)

gmonkeh,

I'm always impressed with your work: so simple but well done. I have really come to love dramatic but simple lighting and this is no exception. It's the details in the little things like the hints of symmetry on the dark side of her face. Beautiful!
