bizarre lines in random images

Hello there! Has anyone encountered this problem?

So when a customer of mine ordered a print off my smugmug site, he complained there were lines running across the print. Lo and behold the lines were on my image! arg! I never noticed because they are so subtle.

if you enlarge it, you can see a little horizontal line just above the girl.

Now, these lines aren't in every image from that day (taken last sept), just a few, and only on horizontal ones. :scratch I've taken a lot of photos since then and haven't noticed this problem on any other batch.

I did do something differently this one time though: I downloaded my photos onto an external hard drive using my laptop, then transfered select ones onto my regular computer. Could something have gone wrong during those transfers? I'm going to check my extranal drive to look at the original downloads.

Anyone have a clue and to what this is all about?:dunno

ok, a little more about this mystery...

It's not only on the horizontal images. I found a vertical one with some light lines.

also, I was taking pictures as rapidly as my camera could go with the rapid shutter....so....I notice the 'random' pics with the lines were probably when my camera stopped letting me take photos so the memory card could catch up with me. Could that be the problem?

Does anyone else have this problem? Or might it be something else?

I know this might be in the wrong thread topic now...doesn't sound like it's a post-processing problem like I thought it was.:huhHow do I move it to the camera section?

It would help greatly if we knew the full EXIF and shooting conditions for the affected images.

One guess is a CF card with a faulty shielding. There are reports that RF interference can be generated by cards that are not properly shielded, and that interference can affect other circuits in the camera, including the image processor section.

If it only happens with a particular card, I would suspect that to be the case.

If it happens with all cards, I would suspect another cause, probably camera specific.

Has the camera ever been serviced?

If I interpret all this information properly, some potential causes might be (could be a lot of guessing going on):

Firmware version
RF interference from memory card and even lens IS
In-camera sharpening
RAW plus JPG

All of the above.
None of the above.
Some combination of the above.

The Canon 20D had celebrated issues with horizontal banding, as have many digital cameras from multiple manufacturers.
