They're all great. I think I like the 1st shot best though. Would you mind sharing info on how you took the shot? Lense, filter, etc?

Thanks and enjoyed seeing your photography.

Cool pics at the state fair....interesting food habits though...Deep Fried Pepsi? I don't get around much I guess.

I like the perspective of the first.

Taken with my Sigma 10-20mm lens- just a uv filter and no real pp to speak of. I am kind of in a less is more phase with my processing lately. (Or maybe just being lazy :rolleyes )

Thanks all.

Hello Jeff,

This post has been:

a) educational. I thought when I saw Deep Fried Twinkies and Snicker bars a few years back that was pretty gross. But wow, now they are deep frying PEPSI? And the roast beef sundaes?!? *gag* Yet I also learned that Florida, where my best friend lives, holds a state fair in the winter. Interesting.

b) gastronomically satisfying. The food porn was fantastic. One of the best parts, for me, about a fair is all the greasy meat and onions and stuff, and I really liked your food shots. I had to stop looking at your pics halfway through and get myself some breakfast. Yum!

c) intriguing. Please help a newbie, and tell me how you got the second to the last shot, the one with the ride? Is it a matter of adjusting shutter speed?

I also looked at your slideshow. Thank you so much for sharing.

happy day,

wren

Hey Wren,

I did not lug a tripod around but just sat the camera on a railing or trash can or something. I stopped the lens down as far as possible- like f22 or something and used the lowest ISO setting - which is 200 on my D70. Then set the camera to aperature priority and exposed the shot. I did a few like this, most were between 2 and 5 second exposures depending on how bright the shot was. This allows for the motion blur.

That shot was of the carrousel- but you cant see the horses because they are too dark and moving. I was not carrying my flash but if I go back I want to try the flash hand-held in the middle of the exposure to kind of 'freeze' the horses/riders/etc. mid ride.

Thanks for looking!
