Hi Y'all,
My favorite from the Audubon of Florida's Birds-of-Prey Center was the barn owl, Queenie
http://behret.smugmug.com/photos/129676930-O.jpg
Queenie has suffered neurological damage and won't be released.

she seems to be content as a permanent resident at the center

Nice Harry, Queenie Hmmm
How do they know she has damage of that type ?? Tests etc. ??
Have you tried NX update 1.1 yet. Think you coulda brought out those eyes a bit with a judicious use of control points :dunno
And tell me about them Talons!! Maggie's are half that size and boy can they hurt, would not want to have those talons wrap around me and then a good squeeze on her part and we got ourselves a "Slasher Movie" :wow :rofl

Owls certainly are handsome animals, well, in this case, beautiful. I am glad Quennie has a good home.

Really special photos, of a cool bird. Nice job Harry, you really captured her.
Its funny, but the group there that day, we all fell in love with this bird.
I dont know why, but we all felt a special affinity for "Queenie"
I know that I thought that my "money" shots that day were of this bird. I had smugmug print up some 8X12's of this bird and they of course turned out great!
Nice!

Nice series of pics Harry. :thumb :thumb An attractive bird...but I'm still hooked on the "screamer" with the cute tail featehrs. That eagle caught my eye. Enjoyed the center and the raptors. Need to work on them for next year. I want flight shots. :D

I'm sure they run tests but you could tell by her behavior alone. She would wave her head around and kinda do a Stevie Wonder imitation. It really got some interesting angles.
As for the eyes, they really are solid black and so far recessed that unless she had her head tilted up they got no light in them whatsoever. Even with flash they were hard to get.
Great shots Harry, I love the first one.

They have a medical center for the raptors they bring in. They treat the ones that can be treated, they rehabiitate them and then release them if possible and the one's that can't be released are housed and/or are sent to zoos. other bird centers, etc.
NX is still too buggy, I'll stick to 4.4 until they come up with a mature version of NX or until I "upgrade" to Vista.

That they are. The center does a super job. I have not been this impressed in a long, long, time.

Hey Z,
The group on the second day also fell in love with Queenie. I thimk it has to be that face and the relationship it seemed to have with Teri.

Thanks Mike. I liked the owls probably because I have very few shots of them and I have tons of eagle shots.

You know, she was a gentle bird, obviously damaged in body and mind, but still a gentle soul.
I really took a liking to her. It's nice others did as well.
