This past weekend I was able to meet up with some friends and take a nice trip down the coast. Anand has already posted a few shots from the trip. Incase you missed them, you can find them here (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?p=51218#post51218).

We start the trip at Half Moon Bay and started driving south. We went to many of the beaches along the way.

I've been to the beach quite a bit lately, so I focused on the smaller things. The stuff I would normally miss. I found this scene next to a small waterway leading to the ocean. The texture & footprint drew me in & I snapped a few shots before the playing kids ran through.

I'm glad I captured this before it was gone.

For lunch we stopped in Pescadero, CA for a sandwich and shopping. There are many locally owned art stores featuring the local talent. These are great people here. You could talk the day away. I love the small town feel. It reminds me of home.

For those of you following the West Coast photographers here, your probably thinking...where is the lighthouse? Well...never fear. We did visit the lighthouse, and I did get a shot....of a fence :D

It started getting late, and we were hungry again. Santa Cruz was the logical choice for some chowder and street photography. I ran across this beautiful car while looking for food. I had to take a quick pic because we were on a mission. Don't worry, the license plate was changed to protect the innocent. :D

We ate & watched the sun set behind the lighthouse. It was a great night. We stuck around for a little night photography, then it was back to reality & an upset girlfriend. Apparently I forgot something... :dunno

I hope you enjoyed the tour. Tips are not required, but appreciated. I'm trying to scrap up some change for a debt to a fellow dgrin'er (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=4919). :lol

The rest of the pictures can be found here (https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/254728).

Nice set of shots Dave :thumb Like you, I really like the footprint in the sand shot. I'm sure it was only there for seconds. Good capture :clap

Now for the important stuff. Where'd you guys eat in Pescadero? Did you get sandwiches from Muzzi's or did you sit down and eat at Duarte's? With their cream of artichoke and cream of chili soups and their olliaberry pie :super OMG, I knew I shouldn't have answered this post until after lunch....lol

Again nice shots Dave, but next time please remember to include some food shots.......LOL :rofl

Thanks for sharing,
Steve

I can't remember the name of the place. It's the one with the sign out front that says "The Butcher, The Baker & The Sandwich Maker."

Very cool place, and great sandwich.

The only problem I have with foods shots is having the control to stop eating & pick up the camera.

But gosh golly we sure do photograph things differently! :rofl

It's totally fascinating to me to see how others photograph my neck of the woods!

Pescadero -- the sidewalk on an angle? :rofl

Well, I'm chuckling, because there's not much to photograph in the "town" so that's a totally creative take on it!

But the footprint and sand textures is great!

Thanks Dee! Your right about Pescadero. You have to stretch your mind a little & make the shots there.

It is amazing how people can see the same shot in different ways. Even looking at some of the pics from the other people I went with, you can't tell we are in the same place.

Dave those shots are awesome. That's one of my favorite drives... There's so many great places to get off the highway and find little hidden coves and beaches.

The first shot is my favorite. It captures everything I love about that drive.

I really like the footprint in the sand, too. You have different sand. Normally I would like ours better, but yours is so photogenic there.

And the footprint takes it way over the top, I do like that.
It should be a KPOTD.:rofl Actually it should be in a book or on great paper in a nice magazine.

Thanks Greg. Do you live in the area?

I grew up in Cupertino / Los Altos, but a year ago moved to LA. I used to go to Santa Cruz a lot to (make attempts to) surf and hang out at the beach. I always liked taking the drive down to Monterey and back up the 1 to San Francisco. I prefer to the cold rocky coastline to the wide white beaches we have down here. Someday I'll make my triumphant return... when I can afford more than half a bedroom. :)

Actually rent down here's crazy, but that's another story...

Dave, outstanding foot on the beach. The simplicity of the shot is
wonderful. Something else about it...it's the composition of the sand.

The street shots are very nice. Your choice of angle is great for the fence
shot.

Very nicely done.

very creative, but i don't like the diagonal fence...i've already fallen off my chair twice while looking at it.

did somebody mention food?
