hi oldtime,

looks like a nice day in Carolina for some baseball :wink I like the one of the 1st baseman jumping up to catch a throw and the batter bunting the ball. However, IMHO, you need to work on getting more faces. I don't know how much you can move around shooting a college game to try to get better angles, but it would be well worth it if you could.

This is not Little League ---there was very limited areas to shoot from ,
Basicaly a 25-30 yard area between above ground dugouts and large backstop area. You could shot some from hill behind vistor dugout but not a really good vantage point I got alot of good Pitcher shots Only stuck around for 3 innings--Highschool starts in a week or so and will give it another go then . Better places to shoot from on our Highschool field

In a nutshell this sumarizes the challenge to getting good sports shots. It's why 99% of all shots people post of a college/pro football game from the stands I say are poor sports shots. It's like taking a photo of a bird behind a tree and you only see the wings. The shot has virtually no chance of being good - the tree is in the way. Regardless of how sharp or how good the colors the photo will still be poor because you couldn't get a better angle. Same with sports shooting. If you can't get good access you're going to end up with mediocre shotss so the best advice is to do what you're planning on doing - shoot a venue where you can get better access and get the angles that give a better chance of getting good shots.

Look forward to seeing some of your HS work when you can get the good angles you need. The 120-300 will give you some great results when you do!!

I feel your pain. Last year I bought floor seats to a local college basketball game - small division I school. I was shooting from off the baseline - in a corner well away from the floor (farther away than my seats were). Near the end of the 2nd quarter one of the ushers booted me back to my seat. Security had no problem with me - I had been talking to the guy. I think the usher (college kid) just wanted to flex some muscle - again, we're not talking Indiana basketball here - just University of Akron.

During one of the HS games I shot last year the ump requested I shoot from the dugout rather than the field - for my safety. Sure enough about 3rd inning a foul ball came screaming at my head - so much for my safety :D

Maybe its the sport, not the location! :D I took the following one from the stands a year or two ago. (okay--pro lacrosse draws about as well as hs baseball, but that's beside the point).

They will be scrimmaging Brown and VMI today I will post some pics after I get back
