Haven't posted in a while so thought I'd add a few in from the recent Merritt Island 4 get together. I was fortunate to hit this location with about 20 minutes of golden sunlight left in the day. :D

As soon as I sat down on the ground, this guy came running up to me.

Great shots Kevin, and wonderful lighting.

It was great to meet you at MI IV. I noticed some of your shots over at Nikon Cafe of the Raptors. Those are special as well, please think about posting them here.

Hi Kevin,

Glad to see you coming around. I enjoyed chatting with you last week at MI IV.

Now these are colorful birds in nice light. I don't think I have ever seen a Purple Gallinule before.

Terrific set Kevin. Very interesting and colorful birds. We'll have to go shoot them sometime. Enjoyed shooting with you on both coast. It was a good time that also produced some nice photos. :thumb :thumb

Thanks George! It was nice getting to meet you and shoot with you that morning at the Raptor Center. I'll post those shots here as well.

The 30D is going on the chopping block this week. Wasn't sure if you were serious or not. :wink

Thanks Jim! It was nice seeing you again. I enjoyed getting to see all your toys as well. It's cool getting to see some of these lenses that otherwise you only read about. Give my regards to Kathy!

Thanks Mike. And thanks again for the hospitality. You should check with Ron. He sounded like he was going to make a trip over to these Gallinules very soon.

I appreciate the kind words, Ben. I really liked that 3rd shot, too. It showed off all his colors.

Their feet really are big! The colors are really interesting and glad you noticed the texture in the feathers. At first I thought it was sharpening artifacts but they're there on the RAW files as well. :)

This was my first visit to this park so I can only assume people feed them tidbits which lessens their fear of humans. It was quite surprising to see the one run right up to me. I didn't need to coerce them at all.

Well you were lucky, funny how some animals just seem to be attracted to humans....you picked up some great colour, sun just has to be in the right spot to bring out all those colours, and you were in the right spot at the right time :clap ... nice work ......... Skippy

Thank you Jim! Actually these birds are typically very skittish. These happened to be in a lakeside park and have gotten used to people. I'm anxious to return and spend a little longer time there.

Thanks Skippy. Being at the right place at the right time...that's precisely right. Especially considering how little time I got to spend there. The sun did pick up the colors very nicely. :)
